o, they didn't take it. (Disclaimer: I'm a 30-ish white guy.) [/ QUOTE ] But they did stop you and ask you what Opie (inside joke) was doing with that much money right? How long were you detained? TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

This has been discussed here in the past, welcome to the post 911 world. 10k is illegal overseas, 10k domestically gets you stopped and investigated, but its not illegal. [/ QUOTE ] there's nothing "illegal" about carrying 10k+ overseas, unless you lie about it. |

However, if it is more than $10,000, you will need to report it to CBP. Ask the CBP officer for the Currency Reporting Form (FinCen 105). The penalties for non-compliance can be severe. “Money” means monetary instruments and includes U.S. or foreign coins currently in circulation, currency, travelers’ checks in any form, money orders, and negotiable instruments or investment securities in bearer form. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] for less than 10k, use rubber band + pocket [/ QUOTE ] Don't bring more than 10k on a plane, unless you want to be detained in the event its discovered. I can't recommend the tinfoil & cucumber method that used to be very popular: TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] I highly doubt than amounts bigger than 10K will get much, if any, trouble at the airport if you also have a ticket to LV. [/ QUOTE ] But you are still likely to be detained while they make sure your story checks out. They just want to make sure your not wanted for a crime when your carrying big dough. Of course they wont know unless you get searched - and I have been searched. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] You story will make sense immediately. You have a plane ticket to Las Vegas. |

Re: How to bring your bankroll for a trip to Vegas
Recently made first trip to Vegas myself, and had similar concern...primarily born of not knowing what to expect, since I'd never been there. Took my whole BR (about 8K), to play 8/16 and 10/20. Carried it all in cash. Once I got to the hotel, I got a safety deposit box at the front desk and stashed most of it in there. Carried something like 1500-2K each time I went out to play cards. Never needed that much, but I felt adequately rolled for the games I got into (one shot at 15/30), so I'm glad I brought it all. If I'd just brought, say, 2K, then I would have felt a little "short-rolled" (is that a legit term?) and might have played weak-tight or just passed up the opportunity altogether.
Didn't have a problem, felt secure enough throughout. I'll probably continue with same procedure for return visits until/unless my BR gets up around 15K+. Then I'll probably just start leaving part of it at home. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] If you are just carrying 15K in your pocket, how is anyone in airport security even going to know? It's not like cash is going to set off a metal detector. [/ QUOTE ] Odds are very very good they will never know you have it. But if a drug dog happens to be sniffing up and down the crowd, it could notice cocaine on your Benjamins. Or if you get selected for extra checking, a "I will now use the back of my hand to check the area" pat down may generate a request that you reveal what the bulge is. But even if it happens, odds are good the screener will just say "thank you, you can put it back in your pocket". I've never been asked to turn out my pockets despite several times being singled out for extra security (hint: don't book one-way tickets and don't change your flights one day prior). I only once came across a working drug dog in an airport and he was being trained...the cops asked someone in line if they could pretty please hide a scent thingy in someone's luggage so the doggie could find it. Doggie did find it... good boy. [/ QUOTE ] wouldn't the fact that you have a boarding ticket to LAS VEGAS kind of give you a good alibi? |

Binder clips, med or large. Holds cash compactly in the shape of a wallet. You can clip your ID and credit card in there and your set.

Re: How to bring your bankroll for a trip to Vegas
Once upon a time I had to walk about 5 blocks through downtown Detroit after leaving Greektown at 4:00am. I had about $2800 on me. I stuck about $85 in my wallet and shoved the rest in my underwear. Smelled a bit like ballsack when I got back, but hey, it was Detroit.
I recommend this method. And if your wad is big enough, you may actually get enough of a hitch in your stride to make you look like a banger. Then you know no one will mess with you. |
