Default Golf Help: Hitting irons thin

Any quick tips on not hitting your irons thin? My iron game has gone to hell. I'm getting some lessons soon but looking for some ideas before my round tomorrow.

descending blow
hit down on the ball
move it back in you stance
make a divot
hit the bottom of the ball
try to make a divot in front of where the ball was
get your weight through the ball
finish on your left foot
blind lessons are always the nuts

okra hater's answers are good, but I think the #1 simplest one is KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN. Stance, swing plane etc. can cause a "thin to win" shot but I think the vast majority of the time it's people looking up before the swing is complete. Seriously, when I'm in a rut and I'm not seeing good results the head down trick is my first and most successful fix.

I think it's better to say keep your EYES down than it is to say keep your head down. The poor guy will wind up burying his chin in his chest, restrict his shoulder turn, and suck any power out of his swing.

#1 try and see the club strike the ball. This will hopefully ensure you stay down on the ball and follow through.

#2 try and keep your hands ahead of the club. Don't release it early in an attempt to help the ball into the air.

Saying "stay down and through on the shot" always helps me make more consistent contact.

This is a good point, I phrased it poorly. Particularly since the "head down" comment can lead to dipping, which leads to fat and/or powerless shots. Nice pickup. Suffice it to say I hope you agree this is the #1 mistake that high handicappers make.

Take two weeks off then quit.

j/k. Have fun. Enjoy the day. Prolly aren't gonna find it on the course. Get swing thoughts from someone who has seen you swing and develop them on the range.

whenever i am not hitting the golf ball well, i go to the range and practice hitting the ball with my eyes closed. if you have a friend with you, obviously have him tell you where your balls are ending up. Its good because if you play golf regularly you have muscle memory and it forces you to just focus on swinging the club well.
