Default VENDETTAS 2: GAME THREAD

The Rules of Vendetta

This game is the chance you’ve been waiting for to get back at the people who have annoyed you in one form or another.

The goal of Vendettas: Pick 3 players that you think you can get killed before you die. Then I pick one additional one for you (mostly randomly)! There are no wolves. There are no villagers. Everyone is both… sort of.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF RULE CLARIFICATIONS. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND READING THIS AGAIN. ANY FUTURE RULE CLARIFICATIONS WILL GET UPDATED INTO THIS POST, AND WHEN I CALL DAY I WILL MAKE A NOTE WHETHER THIS POST HAS CHANGED THAT DAY.

What happens if everyone wants me dead?

Everyone has the ability to purchase powers based on the number of people that want them dead. The cooler powers cost more points, of course. The initial pool of points is determined by how many people want you dead (one point per person). There will also be mechanisms for getting new points as the game progresses (see below), but you may not want to wait too long before spending these points (again, see below).

Neat, so how do I get more points?

Each person will receive a daily influx of points every morning except the very first morning (because they had already gotten their starting points), that can be spent that night, based on how difficult their current situation is. The formula is as follows (round down for division in all cases):

First, I determine your category. This is done as follows:

If you have 2 or fewer people alive targeting you, you are considered "low". If you have 3-5 people alive targeting you, you are considered "medium". If you have 6+ people alive targeting you, you are considered "high"

Then, based on the number of targets you have alive:

5+ targets:
High: 5
Medium: 3
Low: 2

3-4 targets:
High: 3
Medium: 2
Low: 1

2 targets:
High: 2
Medium: 1
Low: 0

1 target:
High: 1
Medium: 1
Low: 0

Victory:
High: 3
Medium: 2
Low: 1

I am aware that winners will often get more points than those who have not yet won. The reason for this is to make it more interesting for people who have won and make the quest for King Werewolf (see below) more complicated, but also so they can defend themselves from attacks. Most of the offensive powers stop working once you have won.

What’s to stop me from just sitting on points for days and days?

Unspent points will decay at a probability of 33% per point per day (the player is informed as part of their morning PM). However if you buy a power (like vote purchase), it will never go away until you actually use the power. Points you received that morning cannot decay until 1 full night phase has passed. Example. You spend all but one of your starting points. Day 1 passes. That night you choose not to spend it. That morning, that point has a 33% chance of expiring. Say you also get 2 more points the morning of Day 2. Those two points cannot decay until the morning of Day 3.

What’s to prevent roleclaiming?

All powers that target other people may be used in the following manner: You may, with your power usage (whatever it is) accuse the target of targeting you (need to kill you to win, not targeting you with a power), as well. If they are targeting you, you get 1 point back. If not, the power completely fails and you don’t get any points you may have gotten in the morning. Also note that later in here there's a note that once you have won, every player who also also won is considered your target. However, this only applies to powers that say "not your target" (like Rogue), but not this rule. In other words you can't accuse someone who has won of targeting you when targeting them with a power (like seer peek) to get a point back.

NEW ADDITION: The initial cost of a power must cost more than one point. So permanent powers (that cost 0 to activate, like seer) are fine, but not Seer peek etc.

ALTERNATE WORDING BY MDORAND:

[ QUOTE ]
First, lets define "roleclaiming" as to how it pertains to this particular game. In Vendettas, roleclaiming refers to announcing your targets in thread.

In order to prevent roleclaiming, the following rule has been implemented for this game.

If you target someone with ANY targeting power (seer, rogue, vote buying...etc..)and WHEN you target them you let Durron know that you believe this person is targeting you, you will receive 1 free point that you can spend in the next game day. If the person you claim is targeting you is NOT targeting you, your targeting power WILL NOT WORK.

THE PERSON MUST BE TARGETING YOU PERSONALLY FOR YOU TO GET THE EXTRA POINT.

Example:

Bill thinks Joe is targeting him. Bill is a vote buyer, and that night, he buys Joes vote and tells Durron that he believes Joe is targeting him.

IF Joe is targeting Bill, Bill buys Joes vote AND gets 1 free point to spend in the next game day when he receives the next day's point salary.

IF Joe is NOT targeting Bill, Bill does NOT buy Joes vote, and does NOT receive any free points.

[/ QUOTE ]

What’s this King Werewolf thing you mentioned earlier?

From the last thread:

KING WEREWOLF - For the first time ever, a werewolf game will have a direct, applicable prize: custom title "KING OF WEREWOLF" (or user chosen variant thereof, like WEREWOLF KING or KING WEREWOLF etc. Any variant within reason will be acceptable). How to get this title? Be the last player standing! Other players may "win", but only you are the champion. You will hold this title until after Vendettas 3 is over, and after that your title will be changed to a custom title of your choice (within reason).

Some powers say “enhanceable”. What does that mean?

If a power is “enhanceable”, it means the following.

1) By default, the power informs the player that they were targeted BY YOU.
2) If you spend one unspent point (or an enhancement power) in addition to the power, you may remove that they were targeted by you (but they still know they were targeted).
3) If you spend two unspent points (or two enhancement powers, or 1 & 1) in addition to the power, the player knows nothing at all about being targeted.
4) For permanent powers, these extra points must be spent for each use of the power.
5) For night kill powers, the player never learns what kind of night kill it was (so rogue, vigilante gun, serial killer, etc. all get reported as night kill – if the player survives somehow )
6) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND ENHANCEMENT POINTS WHEN YOU BUY THE POWER. You spend the enhancement points when you use a power (permanent or otherwise)
7) All power uses are reported GENERICALLY. i.e. roleblock, roleguess, seer, nightkill, etc.

The target giving powers seem pretty powerful. Any clarifications?

The same person may not be given a new target by the same player more than once per game. I'm putting this here to make it obvious. However, it is possible to get new targets more than once ONLY IF DIFFERENT PEOPLE give them to you.

Further, if you have won, and then someone gives you

Any other major differences from Vendettas 1?

People find out what’s happening to them by default now for most powers, unless points are spent. So (unless points are spent), people will find out they have been peeked, have been targeted by thievery powers, night kills (if they survive) etc.

NEW RULE:

If you have won, all other players that have already won are considered to be your target for the purposes of whether powers can affect them or not.

Night Kill clarification:

This is different from V1. In this game, if you are nightkilled by multiple people in the same night, it only counts as ONE KILL. This applies to:

Bullet Proof Vest / Reinforced Kevlar vest (50% overall no matter how many kills)
Night Armor (You cannot die the night you lose it, but you can the next night)

What happens if I have a masonry with more than one person:

Masonries are not transitive unless you pay for it. If transitive masonry is paid for, then you may have a three way chat. Example. A has a masonry with B and with C. You cannot have a 3 way chat UNLESS B or C pays for a masonry with the other. A is not required to tell either of his masons that he has a masonry with someone else. I would prefer copy/pasting not occur, but since I cannot enforce it, I'm not going to make it explicitly disallowed (though I am going to say that a three way AIM chatroom is not allowed UNLESS the 3rd masonry is purchased). If you want to bring a 4th person into the masonry, ALL THREE LINKS must be bought in order to have a 4 way chat.

Please try to stay within this spirit of politicking and intrigue with regard to this, especially if you buy a mason rather than having it picked for you with the Wolfchat power.

What happened to that buyback thing you mentioned in the last thread?

I got rid of it. I didn’t like it upon further thought.

Power List, First Draft:

1 point:

Night-Chat: You get three consecutive nights worth of interactive night chat with a player of your choice.

Day Role-block: One use of prostitute power as in previous games. Only applies to day powers (double vote, vote purchase, etc.) May only be used against people that are not your target. Enhanceable

Night Role-block: One use of prostitute power as in previous games. Only applies to night powers (night kill, seer, etc.) May only be used against people that are not your target. Enhanceable

Bullet Proof Vest: Any night kill the night this is used only works 50%. This works against any number of night kills (so even if 3 people shoot you, it’s still 50%)

Enhancement point: Buy these points if you plan to save your points specifically for use with enhanceable powers. Works just like using an unused point for enhancements, except they never decay (and you can’t sell them back of course).

Power Shield: You are immune to all non-nightkill powers that directly effect you (i.e. not double votes from other people) in the NEXT game phase. This power may be used during either a day phase or a night phase, but it works for the NEXT phase.

Role Guess: Name a player and a power you think they have. If correct, they lose the use of that power in the NEXT applicable phase and you gain it. Enhanceable FOR FAILURES. Successful steals ARE ALWAYS REPORTED THAT YOU STOLE THE POWER. Also, YOU MAY NOT STEAL THE SAME POWER FROM THE SAME PERSON MORE THAN ONCE. Finally, Power Shield / Power Armor CANNOT BE STOLEN AND ALWAYS BLOCK THIEVERY.

Role Guess Defense: At night, choose a player. If that player tries to Role Guess / Steal from you that same night, THEY DIE. You MAY use this one someone who is your target. Enhanceable

Seer Peek: You may peek a player during any night phase. When you peek someone, you get 100% of the information about them the the target knows. How many people voted for them at the beginning of the game, what powers they bought, what powers they have remaining, and who their targets are. This power is expended after use. Enhanceable

Seer Block: You are immune to seer peeks in the night phase you use this power in. (this applies to both seer peeks and privileged peeks)

Vote Purchase: You may move someone's vote one time. Any vote value modifications will apply as if the person had voted for their target to begin with. This power is expended after use. The target is informed that YOU purchased their vote. If multiple people try to buy the same person’s vote, the person who actually gets it is rand()ed. The target is informed only who the person who was actually successful was. Enhanceable

Vote Count: At night, you may expend this power to find out the previous day's vote count. This power is expended after use.

2 points:

Hater: Your votes count for 2 against players who are not your target. This lasts for the entire game, UNTIL YOU HAVE WON (and then it goes away). If you have won, and then someone assigns you a target (so you haven't won anymore), you get it back.

Rogue: You get a single night kill against someone who is not your target. If successful, you also steal one unexpended 1 point power from them, determined randomly. This must be a PURCHASED POWER. If they have none, nothing happens. Enhanceable

Shelter: You are immune to night kills the night this power is used. This power is expended upon use. Multiple copies of this power may be bought, but cannot be used in consecutive game days.

Defense: You are immune to lynching the next game day. This causes the person who is second in votes to be lynched. Multiple copies of this power may be bought, but cannot be used in consecutive game days. You may not activate this power once you've won.

Masonry: As Night-chat, except lasts the whole game. This power does not take effect until you use it the first time, so choose your target wisely!

Wolfchat: When this power is used, I pick someone who is guaranteed to have similar interests as you. You are not their target, they are not your target, and you have at least one of the same targets (determined randomly using a super-secret algorithm). This is night chat only. This power may only be purchased at the very beginning of the game.

Anger: Target player who is not your target randomly gets a new person targeting them. Enhanceable Note: The targeted player has “enhanceable” aspect. However the player who receives the new target (random) finds out that you were the one that gave them the new target (unavoidable, even with more points). And of course, the “not knowing that they were targeted at all” aspect of this power is not enhanceable. You may not use this power if you have already won (but you may be affected by it if someone who has not yet won targets you with it.).

3 points:

Day Role-block: Permanent Only applies to day powers (double vote, vote purchase, etc.) May only be used against people that are not your target. Enhanceable

Night Role-block: Permanent of prostitute power as in previous games. Only applies to night powers (night kill, seer, etc.) May only be used against people that are not your target. Enhanceable

Seer: You are a seer. When you peek someone, you get 100% of the information about them that the target knows. How many people voted for them at the beginning of the game, what powers they bought, what powers they have remaining, and who their targets are. Enhanceable

Vote counter: Every night you find out what the resultant vote totals were for that day's lynch.

Misanthrope: Your votes count for 3 against players who are not your target. This lasts for the entire game. If you have won, and then someone assigns you a target (so you haven't won anymore), you get it back.

The Teflon Don: All votes for you count for 1/2 what they normally would (this is done off the final vote tally, and is always calculated last). If this power ever saves you from being lynched, you lose it. This power may only be bought once.

Defense Plus: This power is like Shelter and Defense rolled into one power. You may not activate this power once you've won.

24 Hour Masonry: As Masonry, except may be used during the day as well.

24 Hour Wolfchat: As Wolfchat, except may be used during the day as well.

Role guesser: As role-guess, but you may use it each night.

Revenge: Target player gets a new target, determined randomly. THIS POWER MAY BE ONE OF YOUR TARGETS. Enhanceable. As Anger, you cannot do anything to prevent the other target of Revenge finding out it was you. You may not use this power if you have already won (but you may be affected by it if someone who has not yet won targets you with it.).

Power Armor: You are immune to all powers that target you (night kills and other powers, but not other people’s double votes etc.) for the next TWO game phases. If used at night it effects the next day and night, and if during the day it effects the next day and night.

Seer Immunity: You are immune to seer peeks for the entire game (this applies to both seer peeks and privileged peeks)

Role Guess Defender: As Role Guess Defense, but permanent (once per night). Enhanceable

4 points:

Daytime Armor: If you are lynched, instead the person with the second most votes is lynched and you lose your armor. You may not buy this power once you have won (though if you have it after you've already won, you don't lose it)

Nighttime Armor: If you are nightkilled, instead the kill fails and you lose your armor. This power works for any number of kills that night.

Priviledged information: As seer peek, except you also find out everyone who has this player as a target as well. You may target yourself with this power. Unlike seer peek, this power cannot be used night 1 (the pre-game night). Enhanceable

Reinforced Kevlar Vest: As bullet-proof vest, except it lasts all game. Unlike the Armors, you don’t lose it if you get shot and live through it.

Vote buyer: You are a vote buyer. You may buy a player's vote every day lynch. Any vote value modifications will apply as if the person had voted for their target to begin with. Enhanceable

Vigilante: You get a gun with two bullets. You may use your bullet for a night kill of someone who is not your target. Additional bullets cost 1,1,2,2,3 etc. for each additional bullet. You may spend 3 bullets to kill someone who is your target. So to buy exactly enough bullets to kill one person who is your target is 5 points, and a second person who is your target is a total of 10. Of course, you may only buy one gun. Each bullet is considered to be Enhanceable (not that it really matters with night kills) NEW CLARIFICATION: You may only use one bullet per night (unless you are using 3 bullets to kill one of your targets)

Vendetta: As Revenge & Anger rolled into one. The player receiving the new target may be one of your targets, but the one that is targeted may not be. Each half of this power is individually enhanceable. You may not use this power if you have already won (but you may be affected by it if someone who has not yet won targets you with it.).

Super Anger: As Anger, except you may pick one of your targets. Otherwise the same. Enhanceable. You may not use this power if you have already won (but you may be affected by it if someone who has not yet won targets you with it.).

Role Steal: As role-guess, except if the power is permanent (or multiple use internal to the power itself, like vigilante gun but NOT like buying multiple shelters) you get to keep it, permanently. Enhanceable FOR FAILURES. Successful steals ARE ALWAYS REPORTED THAT YOU STOLE THE POWER. Finally, Power Shield / Power Armor CANNOT BE STOLEN AND ALWAYS BLOCK THIEVERY.

5 points:

Serial killer: You may kill one person who is not your target every night. Enhanceable (not that it really matters with night kills, unless you think they may have defense).

Diplomat: Your votes count for 2 against players who are your target, and 3 for those who are not. This power lasts for the entire game. If you have won, and then someone assigns you a target (so you haven't won anymore), you get it back.

6 points:

Super Vendetta: As Vendetta, except the person that gets targeted may be one of your targets. Each half is individually Enhanceable. You may not use this power if you have already won (but you may be affected by it if someone who has not yet won targets you with it.).

7 points:

Sanctuary: You are immune to night kills for the entire game. You may still be lynched as normal.

Super Power Armor: You are immune to all non-night kill powers that directly target you (though double votes etc. will still count because they target the vote, not you) for the entire game.

Super Seer: As seer, except you also find out every player who is targeting the targeted player. Unlike seer, this power does not take effect night 1 (the pre-game night). Enhanceable

8 points:

Role Stealer: As Role-Steal, except you may use it each night. Enhanceable FOR FAILURES. Successful steals ARE ALWAYS REPORTED THAT YOU STOLE THE POWER. Finally, Power Shield / Power Armor CANNOT BE STOLEN AND ALWAYS BLOCK THIEVERY.

10 points:

Chuck Norris: You may kill one person per night, regardless of their role.

As of this point, anyone who has not spent their points must wait until Nightfall to actually buy powers. You may send me the PM during the day but the power won't actually take effect until nightfall. The first time you will get points is the morning of Day 2, at which point you will find out if any unspent powers have decayed.

It is still night. I have some PMs I need to send before the game can begin, at which point I will call day.

PMs have been sent.

IT IS DAY. CARNAGE MAY NOW COMMENCE.

Random last stuff:

No one got to use any powers at all night 0 (but they did buy stuff of course)

Night is at 10:30

The king of werewolf title is open to discussion, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it

mixed metaphor supplied at no additional charge

Comods: Zurvan and DMBFan23

Both of them are mostly comodding for vote counts. I'm doing most of the rest of the work so all night actions should be sent to me
