Mr GM and WSEX are not being truthful.

WSEX is rakefree like Britain is tax free. They take from those who earn it and give it to those who are idle.

In this case, WSEX takes the rake out of your winning hands and shares it with your weak tight table mates.

From their FAQ.

Contrary to popular belief, the rake isn’t just taken after a hand is completed and before a pot is awarded; rather, the house takes the rake from the pot incrementally after each round of betting in a hand. Therefore, the rake is essentially “paid” by everyone involved in a pot, not just the winner of each hand.



The amount of rake players receive back on a weekly basis is determined by the participation in real money games (hands), the amount of rake taken during each hand, and the amount paid in tournament fees. On a per hand basis, everyone that is dealt in receives a portion of the rake collected for that hand.


Point 1: 6 people at the table, 2 participate, 6 get paid.

That is to say, for those of you who came from public schools, they take from those who earn it, (put their money at risk) and distribute it to all, including the weak tight nits who NEVER play a speculative hand.

To illustrate:

An aggressive bettor raises 76s and gets one call. The rest of the nits are just sitting there waiting for the mortal nuts before playing. The flop comes A98 rainbow. Our entrepreneur bets the flop pot, gets a call from AK who is too timid to reraise. Turn is a blank, our hero bets 1/2 pot and Timid Terry calls. The river brings a 5 and our hero pushes all in. Timid Terry is also too weak to let go and calls.

Hero wins a fat pot and pays $5 rake.

Pay attention boys and girls, here is where the shell game begins. The $5 is NOT returned in due course to our enterprizing hero. It is instead spread equally to all participants. Our hero paid $4.17 in rake.

Assuming this sort of thing continues (after all, our hero is a WINNING player), our hero will subsidize the entire table, getting back fractions of what is being lifted from his hard earned winnings.

You all say "well, it is better than nothing" I say Bullsh*.

So you can play elsewhere and pay 100% rake or 30% calculated the same way as this. Or you can play WPEX and get 100% back as it is calculated in this manner. Clearly 100% is greater than 30% which is greater than nothing.
