Bump for a further update...

The poker room at Lac Leamy is under construction, and tentatively scheduled to open December 15. They're putting it in the east (newer) end of the casino. 12 tables total, 6 PokerTek and 6 with live dealers.

I heard about the same thing for casino de Montreal. I read on another forum it should be open by the end of the year. J'ai hâte osti.

Thanks for the update, seems to support what I have been hearing elsewhere (jackseven). Do you know if they have the approvals they need from government, apparently they need approval for the Poker tek tables from the gaming commission.

Anyone else with news please post. Information on limits would be also helpful.

If they get real dealers and spread 5/10 and 10/20 NLHE games, I will visit in a flash. I used to live in Montreal and can vouch that Quebecers are some of the worst poker players, as a group, that I've ever come across.

A lot of Quebecers in live poker are terrible and I can't imagine what it would be like in a casino.

I'm just saying its highly unlikely they could forbid French at the table. It seems stupid to forbid English, so it seems like both languages is the only option. Is that how it works at the Aviation club?

I played in Prague and while I don't recall if there were specific rules about languages allowed (was playing with dudes from Sweden, for example, among other places) both English and Czech were spoken freely. Same in Budapest (Hungarian/English both spoken).

The dealers actually declared actions (check/raise/etc) in English, interestingly enough. Cards were A/K/Q/J too.

The Montreal casino still has no deal in place with the dealer's union for the dealers to deal poker. They are asking their dealers to take a significant hourly pay cut form their regular table games in exchange for promises of better tips - promises that the dealers are understandably not convinced are all that accurate. From what I have been able to discern from conversations with dealers and pit bosses at the table games the dealers will be expected to pool their tips and split between all dealers on the same shift, and the pay cut from an hourly perspective is somewhere in the 30-50% range... I wouldn't take the deal if I were a dealer there, and from the discussions I had with those willing to talk about it, it looks unlikely that the union is going to budge on the issue either...

So - the Montreal Casino poker scene may start with the electronic tables only at some point in the near-distant future until the house can reach a deal with the union... Live "real" poker will then have to wait for a suitable training period to take place for those dealers who do accept the offer, so we're looking at months of delay at best before the room opens...

I have no idea if this applies to the Lac Leamy casino or not...

I have officially spoken with the Casino's Front desk and the official word is it will be on December 18th, not the 15th. The Electronic tables will be available that day. The Dealers are still in a fight with the union because they are having problems with money but are hoping they can come to a conclusion before december 18th. The dealers want more money than the union is offering them.

Thanks for the update.

A couple questions. The dealers are fighting with the union, not the employer? Can you elaborate.

Also, if the dealers can reach an agreement, will they be ready to open live tables on the 18? In other words, does the Casino have the tables and are the dealers trained and ready to go on the 18th?

Thanks.

This is great news. I'm just wondering why there hasn't been any big promos about it. No real press release, the lac leamy site doesn't even state anything new. Weird? I think it is.

Can't wait to start playing there on a regular basis.
