wow. makes me nostalgic for the old days.

just remember folks, fires wreak havoc in the near term but they are an essential part of the ecosystem.

how about a story or two from the front lines?

I'm over in central MT but it's already smoky enough it kept setting off my smoke detector last night until I shut all the windows. That was very enjoyable.

jason none of my cabins are threatened yet but fires are near one. my house you visited is not close to a fire but if one starts with me on this hill, it will come get me quickly.

today the winds are kicking up and it will at least double all the fires in size. right now we have 200,000 acres or more ablaze from five fires around here.

dave, sorry but the manuscript for the book burnt up in a fire so its all over. see if you can re create it from memory.

it may be time to get out of dodge soon just because of the smoke.

wind blew through the valley today and cleared the smoke from missoula, but i am sure that just made things worse for those trying to fight the blazes.

glad to hear your properties are safe for now.

any idea where you might take off to?

yea we got wind and cleared out the smoke too. round of thunderstorms without rain are moving thru. a few new firs have started. right now we have 315,000 acres around here on fire.
the big fire up by east glacier has blown and crossed the road. thats going to be problems. i also have some heavily wooded land very near there that could become charcoal soon.

if i go to a poker place i will post it.

other i may go up to canada near fernie and fish the elk river and camp there. fishings real good for cutts around 18'' on grasshoppers.

I just got back from two weeks of camping and skydiving in Marion, MT, and it was crazy being in freefall (and under a parachute) with 5000-acre fires less than 20 miles away. Around 8000 feet you would start to smell the smoke in freefall.

Hope everyone up there stays safe and none of your property is damaged, Ray.

yea charlie, natural things are just part of life up here. nobody likes the bad things but the good parts more than make up for it.

i have posted a few pics of parts of my place. but i dont remember where they are. i think in an ice skating thread i put up a pond picture. i am not good with posting pictures as it takes alot of time to put it up on the images site then put it in the post. maybe faster now that i have real download speed.
