Default Tournament advice

I've played three MTT coming in 4th and 7th in two of them. I think my problems are last table and end game strategy. I've read Sklansky's tournament and the GAP concept is of course solid, but the book is still more elaborate on NL than anything else.

Ok for endgame I heard 5BB is about like in hold 'em when you're at a point to push all in. Is that about right? Also I stay away from draws, but I'm also thinking really only making the move when I have A or K or the least top pair. I'll try ante steal with other pairs around 5bb or more but what are the type of hands I'm looking for when I know by fifth I'll probably be all in.

Also specific last table strategy. It seems that for the most part it becomes like a rollercoaster ride between the chip amount. Basically, like the ones who could withstand a hand to the river and still play and then those who will die if the next hand doesn't win. I don't know I'm really just asking for some basic advice--like things NOT to do. thanks
