HU LO8 - Theoretical Question
Phil's post brought to mind a guy I have faced HU a few x lately that has an unorthodox style that I sruggle with when not getting any decent cards.
He calls all PFR, calls any bet on the flop, and bets to almost every check. When the cards are running cold, I find this very tough to beat. Aggression hurts me. Passivity hurts me. I can try to checkraise my decent hands, but if they aren't occurring often enough then playing against his style is -EV for me. This being LIMIT, I can't win merely by being patient. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

Re: HU LO8 - Theoretical Question
having trouble against an aggressive player HU when you aren't getting cards is in no way exclusive to PLO8. Over time the cards will obviously even out. Maybe try to check raise bluff every now and then.

Re: HU LO8 - Theoretical Question
I may not have presented how he plays clearly enough. In fact, he is what I would classify as passive as he seldom if ever raises and only bets a pot after it has been checked, or on the river. Very frustrating.

Re: HU LO8 - Theoretical Question
So if you bet he calls and if you check he bets. It sounds like he plays almost every hand.
I would try to get away from my losers early. Check raise with my strong hands on the turn to make more money. |

Re: HU LO8 - Theoretical Question
If your cards are running cold of course it will be hard to beat someone who calls every flop bet. Does he also call a lot on the turn? Some people will give you more credit if you bet a second time...
Anyway, sounds like his main leak is his predictable flop play. Check/fold your weak hands and check/raise your strong ones and you should be able to get ahead of him. |

Re: HU LO8 - Theoretical Question
Thanks Chaos - that's what I have been doing and it seems like the right approach. It's just inevitable that on the days my cards are cold & I don't get enough of the strong hands, he will get the best of me.
