Connecting old HD to new PC (Dell Dimension E521)
So my old PC died, don't know why, don't care. Gave me the motivation to get a new Dell Dimension E521. New PC arrived Friday.
I was planning on just popping the old HD into the new PC and transferring data files over to the new HD. I've done this plenty in the past, seemed like a good plan. However, the new PC has hookups I'm not familiar with??? I cant figure out how to connect old HD to new PC?!?!?! Still researching, but anyone know where to point me? Here's the old HD: And here's the new box: |

Re: Connecting old HD to new PC (Dell Dimension E521)
It looks like the new box uses SATA drives and the one you have is an IDE. I don't know much about SATA drives or what they look like, but that would be my guess. If you don't mind spending some money you could get an external drive housing that turns your old IDE drive into an external firewire or USB drive. I think they run about 40-50 bucks.

Re: Connecting old HD to new PC (Dell Dimension E521)
The new PC uses SATA. It should have an IDE controller for the CD/DVD drive. You could probably slave the old HD to the CD or DVD drive, or disconnect the CD drive long enough to copy data from the old HD.
