Default TP2K, pot control vs protection

Cryptologic - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.25/$0.50 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

SB: $44.35
BB: $9.00
Hero (UTG): $50.00
MP: $57.15
CO: $49.25
BTN: $65.75

Reads: MP is fairly tight, i cant see him cold 3betting the flop with anything less than a set. If he calls im fairly sure im beat.

SB seems pretty loose in the 15 or so hands ive been with him, limps a lot, calls raises, generally loose/passive

Preflop: Hero is dealt J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 Players)
Hero raises to $2.00, MP calls $2.00, 2 folds, SB calls $1.75, BB folds

Flop: ($6.50) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 Players)
SB bets $1.00, Hero raises to $6.00, MP folds, SB calls $5.00

Turn: ($18.50) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $12.00, SB calls $12.00

River: ($42.50) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero checks

is this ok to be playing KJ like this? i know im building quite alarge pot with a very marginal hand, but i dont wanna give freecards to draws.

Preflop I'd fold KJo UTG, might play it if it was suited.
Mindonk on a board like that screams draw. I'd play it exactely the same (maybe bet a bit more on the turn).

Pitch the hand PF.

Villain is obviously on a draw. I'd bet around 10 on the river and call a push.

Yea....fold this hand pre-flop from UTG. But post-flop looks good to me.

Why? A missed draw isn't gonna call a bet. And you think he's gonna check raise bluff you on the river?

One, there's no need to show down a free hand when we have the best hand 90% of the time here. Secondly, if villain pushes it's only 14 more to call. Lastly, it's also possible villain has a Tx/Jx that he'll call another bet with that we're missing value from on the river.

You misht as well just push yourself then: I'd think he'd call 20 getting 3 to 1 almost as often as he'd call 10 getting 4 to 1 here.

I like the 10 into 40 because it looks weak and he might think a push will get us to fold (depending on how stupid he is). Villain will definitely not call 24 into 40 though.

Well, on drawy boards protection is obviously more important than pot control.
