Re: 300BB rule enough for the casual internet poker player?
So using your example bankrolls, and suggested guidelines of 300 Big Blinds for Limit, and 20 Buy Ins for No Limit, this is what it works out to:
$300 => 0.5/1.0 Limit & 0.05/0.10 NL (aka NL10) $3000 => 5/10 Limit & 0.5/1.0 NL (aka NL100) The numbers work out that you're slightly overrolled for the NL examples, since at $400 and $4000 you can move up to the next limit. The good news is that if you are willing to move down when you hit a downswing, you should not ever go broke. Also, I liked these guidelines from Chris Ferguson. They're simple and should keep you out of trouble: http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/pro-tip...on&tip=100 |

There's nothing wrong with being over-rolled. You should be moving up when you have the bankroll AND the skill to beat the game at the higher level, not just the bankroll.
After the UIGEA I became a break-even $.50/$1 NL player, so I moved down to $.05/$.10 NL to re-evaluate my game, even though my bankroll was over $5K! |
