He flipped a pair of 5s

This is surprising as hell from a player who barely has PFA factor above one. Maybe he was having a bad/good day.

Loose wiring. Especially at these stakes, even the passive fish are unpredictable on the bigger streets. I agree hes not pushing often without a boat/trips, but with heros line, villian will try to make a heroic steal often enough.

I called, hated it, and won He flipped a pair of 5s so I guess my passive line was good this time but I didn't like it, especially when he went crazy with the bets.

congrats!

There was a good article in Cardplayer this issue or last dealing w/ hands that you under-represent you hand. In summary, if you under-represent, then you have to call more often. Most of the time it sucks, but the other player is betting based on your weaker actions.

I still think that a river fold is the correct play here against this type of opponent.

I think the only debatable street in terms of how hero played the hand is the river. The reason I lean towards a call here is hero's hand is very underrepped, and is still ahead of a decent portion of villains range+ pot odds. I play it the same on a good day, and think hero played it perfectly.

Given his stats, he has a ton of hands that you beat, and only a few you dont. I call the flop and bet out on the turn, and fold to a significant reraise.

As you've played it, I call, and bet out on the river, but as much as you think he will still call with if he didn't hit trips here.

If you check the turn, then you need to check/call.

After c/c on the turn, then bet about $20 at any river and fold to a push. If villain raises less than a push, I guess you have to figure pot-odds vs his hand range. I suspect you're usually beaten, however, if he comes over a $20 blocking bet on the river.
