Poker League Set up - Please rate, would you play in this
this is a 1 day tourney to see if we can build interest. please let me know your thoughts...
To build interest, run a 1 day Poker League. the league would consist of 6 teams, each with 3 players, so 18 total players. Buy in would be $50 each Total pot = $900 Each player would play 2 SNG's each of NL. (If this idea works out, other games would be brought in for the future) You're playing each SNG 6 handed so there s no collusion cause you wont be playing with your teammates. A point system is established for the SNGs. The total points would be tabulated. This would be a total of 6 scores since each team member plays 2 sngs each. The points for individual sngs would go something like this: 1st - 20 2nd - 15 3rd - 10 4th - 6 5th - 3 6th - 0 So the max score would be 120. 20 * 2 games * 3 players = 120 points. The top teams would face off heads up. The teams would seed their players 1-3. 1 plays 3, 2 plays 2 The teams face off and winner is declared either 3-0 or 2-1. The pay outs would be something like this: $40 for each SNG 1st place $20 for each SNG 2nd place A total of 6 SNGs is played (2 per person) so that's $360 (60*6) of the $900 pot. That leaves $540 left. Using a 70/30 split rounded, 1st place team would get $380. 2nd place team would get $160. How would this work out in 1 day? Sample Noon- 2:30 - SNG #1 2:30- 5:00 - SNG #2 5:00- 7 - Heads up Sample Blinds for SNG 4K starting (24K CUM), 20 min blinds 25/50 50/100 75/150 (Hr 1) 100/200 150/300 200/400 (Hr 2) 300/600 400/800 600/1200 (Hr 3) 800/1600 1000/2000 Sample Blinds for Heads up 10K starting (20K Cum) 15 min blinds 25/50 50/100 75/150 100/200 (Hr 1) 150/300 200/400 300/600 400/800 (Hr 2) 500/1K (Cap since only 20 BB's in play) if this gets going, this would be a 1 day event running around 7 hrs. |

Blind setup not too bad but the point system and team play would cause me not to play.

If it was with a bunch of friends having a good time it sounds like fun, don't think I would wanna play with just a bunch of randoms though.

Do you get to enter as a team, or are teams assigned?
I like the idea. Seems like a fun day. |

Re: Poker League Set up - Please rate, would you play in this
yah we have a big group of friends who have played together for 2-3 yrs.
we're doing this for 1 day to test it out. the 1st time, we will choose our own teams. in the future, we thought about doing an actual draft. i need to think of ideas of how that would work out. it would also piss some people off who would be picked last....lol |

Re: Poker League Set up - Please rate, would you play in this
For a bunch of buddies, or from a pool of two different poker circles that have a couple common players, where all involved are awesome people first, appreciate the game for what it is, this actually sounds PHENOMINAL. I will be putting this in place as an all-star like event for my home game once or twice a year. It can get somewhat stagnant, with the same routine week after week, but this would pull in comraderie and rooting for something other than the usual suckout or made hand to hold up. GREAT STUFF!

Re: Poker League Set up - Please rate, would you play in this
Interesting idea. But, another twist might be to allow teammates to play on the same table. The "collusion" would be an understood strategy part that all teams could do, as long as they're honest enough not to signal and such.
(Then again, why train them to collude?) [ QUOTE ] The points for individual sngs would go something like this: 1st - 20 2nd - 15 3rd - 10 4th - 6 5th - 3 6th - 0 [/ QUOTE ] Is a 1st and a 5th worse than a 2nd and a 5th? 2nd and 4th better than 1st and 6th? Minor nit, actually I think it works as is. [ QUOTE ] Noon- 2:30 - SNG #1 2:30- 5:00 - SNG #2 5:00- 7 - Heads up Sample Blinds for SNG 4K starting (24K CUM), 20 min blinds 25/50 50/100 75/150 (Hr 1) 100/200 150/300 200/400 (Hr 2) 300/600 [/ QUOTE ] If this is to last only until 2:30, why do you have blinds beyond 300/600? You might want to go 250/500, 400/800 and 600/1200 in place of Rounds 6-8, to make sure you meet your deadline. At 2:20, 400/800 blinds is still 15BB, so it might extend farther than you think unless your group is aggressive. [ QUOTE ] Sample Blinds for Heads up 10K starting (20K Cum) 15 min blinds [/ QUOTE ] What's the "20K cum"? Are you accumulating extra chips somehow? Oh, wait, you mean 20k on the table- never mind [ QUOTE ] The top teams would face off heads up. The teams would seed their players 1-3. 1 plays 3, 2 plays 2 The teams face off and winner is declared either 3-0 or 2-1. 25/50 50/100 75/150 100/200 (Hr 1) 150/300 200/400 300/600 400/800 (Hr 2) 500/1K (Cap since only 20 BB's in play) [/ QUOTE ] I'm a bit confused- aren't there potentially 9 HU matches- 3 pairs, best of 3 matches? You have over 2 hours of blinds but your schedule only allows 40 minutes for each HU match to be completed. Do the 1-3, 3-1 and 2-2 faceoffs remain in place for each of the 3 HU matches, or do best records pair off somehow? |

Re: Poker League Set up - Please rate, would you play in this
Just some ideas:
[ QUOTE ] in the future, we thought about doing an actual draft. i need to think of ideas of how that would work out. [/ QUOTE ] I'd thought of a similar idea in the past and sketched something out: a) Random draw from a basket. You could have people "buy" the drawing order, similar to below, to pump up the prize pool. b) Bidding- Players can bid to "buy" a teammate or teammates. I was thinking $5 min, $25 max. Either a one-time silent auction, or a "first to turn in max bid gets their choice" option. The bid money gets added to the prize pool, giving everyone a shot at it. You could add a knockout bonus or something or just expand the places paid. With teams of 3, then a person would have to rank their bids if they bid top dollar for each. If they got their Player #1, then they'd have to wait until everyone else drafted until they could claim (or not get) their Player #2. If you REALLY wanted to bump the prize pool, people could bid on more than two players and ALL of the bid money would have to be turned in, no matter WHO they ended up with.... might be a bit too much, I think? [ QUOTE ] it would also piss some people off who would be picked last....lol [/ QUOTE ] This may not be a good thing, given that these are probably weaker players you don't want to chase off, right? |
