[ QUOTE ]
Surely if it happens when you have a bad hand and a good ahnd then it isn't really a tell as such.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe tell isn't the right word, but I've played enough hold'em between home games and 100+ hours of limit that I shouldn't be having this problem--I was hoping for someone with a similar issue who corrected it rather than 'over time' but judging from the responses maybe that's the only solution (and maybe a hoodie short term).

I think it's definitely just competitive jitters, although not nearly as bad as you I had the same feeling the first couple of live sessions. It went away pretty quickly; just need to get used to it.

Limit is totally different, there are no real big decisions to make...

I shake and get the heart rate WAAAYYY up after winning my first big pot of the session. It takes a few hands to calm down and play normal again, but I get up and walk around to help. I also know that I start breathing very hard with either a big hand or bluff, it's twice as bad when in a tournament situation. I try to focus on the other player as much as possible and concentrate on breathing normal.

I am such a nit.

Unless you're this guy:

How in the world can they see your heart beating? Just focus on breathing regularly for the short term plus time will get rid of this. BTW, this is easily one of the least useful sorts of tells evar. Just like shaking hands, it could mean you're bluffing, have a huge hand, are very attracted to the cocktail waitress, are new to live poker, etc, etc. Let the donks think whatever they want and just play as well as you can. Good luck!

If you take the stance recommended in Navarro's book, it should block most of the tells you are talking about.
- Elbows on table
- Hand over Fist covering up face

This should block your face and your neck pulse, and may help you out. Just stay consistent.

i read in psych of poker it tends to be a release of stress or release of something when doing new things.

as previous posters have stated focus on breathing. it works and you'll get use to it.
