It's almost the opposite actually. You get a tax break by realizing a loss, and don't need to pay taxes on a gain until you sell. The question here isn't if you should take a gain or loss on your investment, it's if you can find a better investment than ABC. If someone wants to tell me where I can beat a 100% return within a few minutes I'd love to here it.
