Default loose skin strategy

My roommate and lifting partner is concerned about his loose skin. He's 5'11" and has lost 50 pounds so far, and currently weighs 205. His skin is currently a little loose and he has some stretch marks around his belly and chest.

He has devised a strategy that he thinks may help him minimize his loose skin appearance in the long term. He wants to stop lifting and focus purely on weight loss. His idea is that this will force his skin to tighten up as much as possible, by getting smaller than he plans to be long term. He then plans to fill out his skin with muscle by bulking.

Does his strategy have merit?

Thremp, although I tend to agree with you, I can't come up with a convincing argument why.

Why won't the skin shrink more if he gets tinier? Does his skin stop shrinking at some point? Does skin need muscle under it to tighten?

Scar tissue doesn't shrink.

Right, but are there any strategies to maximize shrinkage of skin in between the scar tissue?

He eats healthy, drinks lots of water, takes vitamins, and rubs cocoa butter on himself. He's still worried about his skin.

I'm not a skin expert, but I doubt that it would make much of a difference when the stretch marks will remain. Surgery is likely the best (maybe only) option.
