I'm almost exclusively a cash game player ($400nl) but decided to start getting into tournaments some because I guess I needed a change of pace, so I picked this Sunday to play a bunch of donkaments &lt; $50 range or so. Well Saturday night I started watching some tourney vids so I figured what the hell I'll fire up a few tourneys and get my feet wet (been ages since I've played a tournament). Well I go 0/6 and don't get anything going in any of them, so I'm thinking to myself how much I hate tournaments blah blah blah.

Then today, start playing at 1pm ish. Continue to run terrible and can't get anything going at all. Felt like I was losing every race and just overall running really bad (I'm sure everybody feels this way).

Finally I get into contention in a couple, and I really felt like I had improved a ton. I was doing pretty well in the $10 R+A (one rebuy and addon only) when this hand happened. IIRC, it was for top 5-10 or so in chips with 200 left or so, but that might be off. For sure though I would have had a great chance if I won that.

I was extremely tilted at the time, but was still in two other tournies. A random $5.50 I had entered for the sake of getting experience, and the $11 6max tourney. I got off to a sick start in the 6max tourney, going from 1500 to 7.5k chips before the 50/100 level and i was a big chipleader. Unfortunately Stars decided to activate the doomswitch. Right after I had 7.3k in chips I lost 1200 with NFD vs top two against a huge idiot all in on flop. Then lose another 1200 right after with 99 &lt; A7 ai pf (both hands 25/50 level), and then I get 3500 ai pf 3 ways at 50/100 level with QQ vs KK and AK. AK of course wins. So I have 3k ish at this point, then I chip up a bit when this beauty of a hand sees my demise ..

So I find myself with a pretty big stack in the random $5.50 I entered earlier. Long story short I finished 2/1896 for $1k. I played pretty questionable HU but whatever, I'm happy that I was able to finally prove to myself that I can do well in these things, even without cards.
