Do LA Casino have different playing \"personalities\" ?
I play LHE @ Commerce most weekends. Recently, I started playing Hawaiian Gardens at the request of another 2+2'er and frequent poster, Frond. I like HG's food, so I now play both casinos most weekends. And I have noticed distinct differences in the "average" opponent's style of play at each casino.
Do others feel the same way? Do other LA casinos have comparable or different "personalities?" Please limit your responses to LA casinos. If you want to talk about your home turf, please start your own thread. My observations about the differences in "personalities" between Commerce and HG include: 1) Commerce is way more LAG than HG, especially PF. For example, my Friday 4/8 game at Commerce was really 16/8 since over 1/2 the hands were capped PF. 2) Commerce tips the dealers better. 3) Commerce is more verbally aggressive than HG, especially @ O/8. 4) Lots more players limp with quality hands in HG than Commerce. 5) Tight is tighter @ HG. I'll also say the overall service is better @HG, but that is not an issue that should impact play. Now I admit that I only play LHE and O/8 up to 4/8 in both casinos and my observations are limited to those games. Do you local yokels agree, disagree? Any "personality" differences with the Bike, Hustler, etc., particularly on issues that impact play at the table? And there is a "crosspollination" of players. Lots of players play both casinos and yet the games have a different feel. What gives? |

I have noticed that the bigger the card barn, the wider the pool of personalities it attracts, the looser and wilder the play. Commerce seems to be the epitome of the barnyard style, but I've seen the similar effect at Casino Arizona for example.

Re: Do LA Casino have different playing \"personalities\" ?
I've noticed Bikes low limit games($8-16 and under) play considerably tighter than anywhere else in LA. Its not uncommon to sit at a $3-6 game at Bike where there are only two players taking the turn, whereas at Commerce, HP, and HG, this is pretty much unheard of. I've also noticed that there are lot more regulars at HG and HP than Commerce or Bike. Anytime I play $15-30 at HG or HP I see the exact same players. At Commerce $20-40 there are often no players I recognize at my table.
And sometimes, it just depends on the game. The $3-6 Omaha 8 at Commerce is tight/nitty bad. The $6-12 O8 at HG is just filled with the worlds dumbest Omaha players. OTOH, the $20-40 at Commerce is vastly superior in idiocy to HG's $15-30 game. |

Re: Do LA Casino have different playing \"personalities\" ?
I haven't played the Bike in a while, but one of the reasons I quit was the comparative tightness of the LHE games. I found the Bike to be surprisingly tight at low limits. And when you combine "tight" LHE and a "high" rake, I head to other pastures.
On the issue of "regulars" @ Commerce may be just so bloody huge that its pool of players is the same, huge. I see that as a plus. I disagree on the O/8 being tight-nitty at Commerce. I've seen it run the gamut from tight to LAGfest. But with a comparatively small pool of players even though I have only played O/8 for less than 1 year, I can look at the table and ID the specific players to see if I want to play or not. Yesterday was a LAP game at O/8 which more than offset my losses at 4/8! World's dumbest O/8 in HG? I'll have to give it a try. Haven't done that yet. Thanks. |

Re: Do LA Casino have different playing \"personalities\" ?
I want to give the 4/8's more of a shot at Commerce. I play mostly at HG because it is a bit closer for me and they seem to have pretty much the worst of the worst that I have seen so far. Haven't yet tried out the 6/12 08 there but have played in the 3/6 08 and it is pretty boring. But then again I just wait for good 2 way hands to play for the most part. Same LP regs in that game every day. Only play LHE right now. The 3/6 stud8 game at HG is fun to play but hard to make much $ in with all the split pots and the rake.
So I will have to play more at Commerce and the Bike but I'd say from what I have seen so far that there are some differences in the way some of these joints play |

Re: Do LA Casino have different playing \"personalities\" ?
I play a lot at HG, and I can say that:
a) the 4/8 LHE players seem to be incredibly easy to beat a lot of the time, and quite often very LAG too b) the stud/8 is fun, but like someone said, hard to beat because of the split pots and rake c) they now have 3/6 Crazy Pineapple, which is really a fun game, lots of action d) I don't know why Sternrootz has said more than once that the 6/12 O8 players are so dumb(?) Can you explain please? I see alot of regulars playing in that game, I don't really play it so I don't know what you've seen. I do play 3/6 O8 there quite often and it varies a lot according to which players are there - either very tight or very loose. |

IME, I seem to find a lot more drunk and degen people at Hollywood Park than the Bike or Commerce. I dunno if that's beause I play there more often or not. The Bike seems to be the more tighter of the 3 to me, although that doesn't mean you can't win there. This is all $100 and $200 NL.

My rule for O/8 at HG is if I know everyone at the table and don't recognize any of them as chip bleeders I play something else.
