How do you find someone?

I have a couple friends from high school, that I haven't spoken with since. I am trying to locate them. The only thing I know about them is their full name, what college they attended, and their hometown. A quick search on the internet turned up a lot of people with the same name who were not them.
Any ideas on how to go about figuring this out? Have you ever used one of those paid services?
