Re: A story about my grandpa
[ QUOTE ]
Guids, Great story. It brought back some very fond memories (too long and personal to share) of both of my late grandfathers. Thanks. [/ QUOTE ] ditto |

Re: A story about my grandpa
[ QUOTE ]
My gramps died about a month ago. During my childhood he was always very quiet and reserved and I bonded much more with my grandma. After she died he started to go downhill. My best memory of him is this: We were out to dinner and the waitress was describing the specials, one of which was Grouper but she kept pronouncing it grope-er...finally my gramps goes "its grouper, not grope-er...this is a grope-er" and proceeds to grab her boob. Greatest thing that's ever happened in the history of humanity. Old people can do anything. [/ QUOTE ] F'ing hilarious, if true. |

Re: A story about my grandpa
Might as well tell one about my gramps.
He's in his mid 80's, Iranian, speaks very weak English. He's living with my family for the remainder of his life, we believe. Anyway, he takes a lot of walks. One day, he didn't return from one. My Dad (his son) is frantic, driving around the neighborhood. He calls up hospitals and no one has seen him. After about an hour the hospitals are called again. "Is there an elderly man speaking Farsi at your hospital?" "Yes, do you know him?" "...." "Sir?" "I'll be there soon." What happened was he fell over walking. Someone saw him, couldn't communicate with him, and took him to the hospital. There, he was unable to speak to anyone obviously, until they finally found an Iranian nurse. At this point he tells her "My son is an architect from Philadelphia." This is not exactly true. My Dad has his masters in that subject, but is a construction manager living in Bucks County (outside of Philly). The hospital is calling everyone with my Dad's first name in the Philadelphia phone book. Meanwhile, my Dad calls the hospital, everyone realizes what's going on, and everyone is relieved. We only let him walk to the end of the driveway now. |
