Nightlife? LA Baby.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe this belongs in OOT or the EL D forum but I find most of LA goes to bed real early and if they leave the cardroom late (let's say 11:00 pm) there aren't many places to go.

What am I missing?

Hollywood, West LA, Santa Monica, Little Tokyo, San Gabriel. All these areas have great nightlife. Not sure about the OC though.

Take LA and LV for a test drive. Rent an "extended stay" type place for 1-3 months in each city. After the test drives, you'll know which one fits you. LA is a bigger poker scene. LV nightlife has got to be more tourist oriented. That means 1 night stands. LA has a greater variety of small cliques, but I am told that you see the same people over and over again within those small groups.

You may laugh but the northern panhandle of WV might be a nice choice. Two poker rooms within 30 minutes of each other will be opening up in November. One in Chester, WV and one in Wheeling, WV. There should be quite a bit of fish at these places. Below are my pros and cons:

Pros:
- New card rooms away from LV and AC equal easy money.
- Within an hour of Pittsburgh, PA and major airport.
- Cost of living is rediculously cheap.
- You can join my monthly game when there is room. ;-)

Cons:
- Only two poker rooms. One planning about 40 cash game tables and one planning 25.
- It's not Vegas.
- It's not LA.
- It's WV. ;-)

Vegas is much more of a town than Atlantic City. You go right outside the casinos in AC and it is basically a slum. Vegas is much more of a town than AC is, but AC has nice areas that are not in the immediate vicinity. Between the two Vegas is much more of a town with more of a nightlife than AC, plus there are more places to play. Strictly between Vegas and AC, I would say Las Vegas. If you have never been to AC or Vegas I would suggest planning trips to both to see what you like first.

where do u live now?

friend of mine moved to LV (from NYC...but not to play poker) 6 months ago and she is dying to get out of there. its a cultural wasteland and people are just 'wierd' there....too many degenerates, lowlifes, dirtbags, someone always has an alterior motive there. it might be ok to go there for a weekend, but after a while that city just kills you.

AC has no nightlife really (if u compare it to NYC, LA, or LV) and the city itself is just shambles...living just 30 minutes outside of AC would be awesome if u werent 25...though some places are good in the summer (jersey shore), in the winter theyre ghost towns. you can always try philadelphia (about 45min to 1hr away).

Los Angeles is probably your best bet if you can afford it. Shouldn't be too bad if you're willing to live in the Valley.

If you're a local, you know where to go every night of the week in AC. I'm not saying it's better than Vegas or anywhere else, but there is a definitely a nightlife here. At least that is what my liver used to tell me.

What really sucks about AC is that if you step outside of the casinos at night, outside of boardwalk you feel like you're in a real ghost town. It will definitely give you a kick, but probably not of the right kind, especially knowing the crime rate. Atlantic City is an enormous wasteland, and is the biggest valid argument against legalized gambling.
