Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/8) (possible spoliers in thread to co
You need deep-pocketed amateurs to make a game.
Most of the people on the show don't come on to try and grind out 25k. For two seasons Farha and Elezra have played comical hands as a running joke. This season Elezra stopped and Farha jacked up the silliness. Maybe Baxter thought he could get them both out. In the end he could afford it. He did leave in pain. Only he knows if the rush was worth it. Farha doesn't seem to be playing his own money. Eli learned a lesson later. Running it twice isn't for everyone. When the buy-in goes to a minimum of 500k, I think the game will change a little |

If Sammy has one pair, without a king or queen, and Eli will defiantly throw away his hand away, then Baxter's move is even money. With any of the 100 other scenarios possible, Baxter is a slight to huge dog. It was a terrible play and Baxter quit right after it. He knew how bad it was.

[ QUOTE ] Did I just see that? Mike Baxtor had a brain fart. WTF was that AI with KQo? And Eli calling there? he and Sammy must be playing the same money. West Coast viewer. LOL. [/ QUOTE ] The only way the play makes sense to me is that Baxter thought he had 10 outs, and thus had the odds to call. He actually did have 10 outs against Sammy. His blunder was that he forgot about the pre-flop raiser who had yet to act behind him (or maybe he thought Eli would not overcall without a monster). In any case, he was marginally correct to call if all parts fell into place, but idiotically wrong if they didn't. [/ QUOTE ] He only has 10 outs if you assume a single K or Q makes his hand. Even against Sammy that's a poor assumption. Going into that board with a naked KQo and a gut shot is just weird. |

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/8) (possible spoliers in thread to come?)
It seems to me that, "In the begining"(1st season), players on HSP tried to show how smart/good they were...now they all get in and try to outgambool each other. Solid poker would give you alot of equity but with high variance.

[ QUOTE ]
How great a game is it when you raise it up to 8000 (big raise) with the 6s 5s and the first two hands that can't wait to call you, you have totally crushed. [/ QUOTE ] Lol, awesome! The play on this episode was just horrific. |

I think Negreanu summed it up the best the previews from
next week, "This is the greatest poker game EVER, please, someone lock the doors!!" Extremely fun to watch, but damn, that was some horrendous play. Recent RGP flunkie (I know, I know, please no stone throwing) lol |

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/8) (possible spoliers in thread to co
The concept of domination loses its significance the lower the cards get. Hands like 6-5 don't really dominate 6-3 the way A-K dominates A-Q, since the kicker will rarely be in play, and it's not like you're playing to make a top pair with those hands. That said, I still don't get what they actually were playing those hands for.
