I thought American Gangster delivered but definitly cribbed alot from other gangster movies especially Carlitos Way

I got completely the opposite message out of the film; extremely anti war. It was making the point that the media has to shoulder some of the blame for the war. I assume that the main character enlists after the events portrayed in the film. Redford's character tries to promote self determination and activism, and is very anti war, but the media spins the political message so misguided youngsters believe that joining the military is "making a difference" and "doing something".

At least, thats what I got out of it.
