Well, since it was addressed in another thread: acid. Seriously, the price has hardly fluctuated in like 40 years. Five bucks to get [censored] up for like 10 hours.

Guns

I generally agree with your line of thining, but even if you make guns more expensive, they will still be available. People can buy used guns and gun "owners" will charge what ever they want.

If you make the bullets more expensive, you can't reuse those. They should be expensive.

P.S. I steal all my really good ideas from Chris Rock

Newspapers...

.25 for the NY post
$1 for the Times...

Hundreds of pages of current information and it costs even less if they deliver it to your door every day!

Water Softener Salt. Potatoes... basically anything that comes in a huge bag that weighs a ton and is only a couple bucks.

Go ask UPS how much they'd charge you to ship a bag of salt from one side of the country to another.

And while I realize these products are not being put on UPS trucks, it still amazes me how there can be 3 or 4 tiers of people making money off the product, and you can still buy it for 4 or 5 bucks. Moving these products on trucks is NOT cheap. I honestly don't know how they do it.

Volume.

They sell more than a million papers a day. They're using the cheapest ink/paper products available. And they're making HUGE dollars from advertising.

They might break even on the paper itself, but have you ever seen the NYT advertising rates to businesses? It's expensive to put your name in front of a million people a day.

Help wanted ads in a smaller newspaper can be costly. A couple years ago I put one in the San Bernardino County Sun for a Sat-Mon and it was like $1500. I imagine the NYT would have substantially higher rates.

Like mason said, public transportation in most cities. Bus rides anywhere on route for $1 usually, trains for $2. Compared to car loan, auto insurance, gas, maintenance, oil changes... public transportation is probably the most under-priced thing I can think of.

[/ QUOTE ]

I may be wrong, but I thought public transportation was subsidized by state taxes.
