Default OT: Help Me Build A Desktop

Background: My laptop sucks. I want a desktop to be my main computer and I want to use my laptop to bring to classes/take notes and such. So I'm going to build myself a desktop. I need your help because I am computer-retarded and don't know which options to select.

Dell Precision Workstation 390 - Custimize w/ Windows Vista

I have no clue what processor to get. My dad said Intel Core Duo's are cool, so I went with the cheapest one of those.

As for video cards, as long as it supports my two 22' monitors, i'm cool.

Memory: I can do 1GB or 2GB. Is it worth the extra $150 for 2GB?

WTF?! Which one?!

Anyways, any advice would be awesome. I know you guys have infinite intelligence and I feel like a moron doing this.

all those defaults are more than adequete for what you're likely using it for. maybe do 160GB instead of 80GB for HD. also, 2GB ram i guess because vista probably hogs ram

What's your budget? What will it be used for? What are your priorities?

yea definitely 2gb ram imo. An extra $150 to go from 1 to 2gb? Doesn't sound right

My thoughts in general though:

More RAM is virtually always better. These days anything less than 2GB and I'd be appalled, heh.

Disks: no need to overbuy. Depending on your tasks, two smaller drives might beat one larger one.

Sorry for the lack of info:

I am basically going to use this computer to play poker, surf the internets, AIM, iTunes, write papers, nothing really strenuous.

My main goal (in terms of budget), is to select the options which will get me a solid, working desktop at the cheapest price.

A huge priority, of course, is for the desktop to be able to support my 2 monitors. A Samsung 204b and a Dell 22' (i think 2007fp)

Get the video card with the max memory then. The 256GB one.
