Isaac Newton and Leonardo Da Vinci seem as though they should be pretty high up on the list here.

I read Newton died a virgin, so doubt he had an awesome life.

Howard Hughes seemed to have an awesome life but he was a stingy rock that didn't donate a penny. I don't want to live his life.

Kirk Kerkorian is my answer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Kerkorian
-Amateur boxing champ
-Flew suicide missions for the Allies
-Chartered flights for the mob
-Built Vegas (http://www.1st100.com/part3/kerkorian.html)
-Owned MGM (both studio and hotel)
-Owned a fair amount of shares in GM
-Still alive and well at the age of 90

Ron Jeremy spends his life having sex or making people who argue against having sex look bad. I'd say that qualifies as awesome.
