Want to start 5X5 maybe with altercations
Im hopefully going to be starting Bill Stars 5X5 in a week with guerrilla on off days. I was wondering if I could switch rows for wide grip pull ups. Possibly a second back work out if needed. Or just add the pull ups with the rows. I did rippetoe for 3 months a coupe months ago and I just felt like rows didn't do it for me and pull ups would be a little more specific to what I want. Ill probably do this for 3 months then switch it up to something else well see what happens. Any suggestions?

Re: Want to start 5X5 maybe with altercations
5 sets of 5 altercations is probably too intense, I'd start with signing up for a bloodsport of some type and adding altercations as necessary

Re: Want to start 5X5 maybe with altercations
haha, sorry. As for your actual question I’m not an expert on 5x5 programs, but in general I think wide pull-ups continue to be hugely underrated for overall back development, and they will never be a bad thing in a lifting program. Grip with your thumb over the bar (to reduce emphais on bicep) and think about pulling from your elbows. I guess you’ll have to be fairly strong to be able to add weight for five sets of five reps but you’ll figure it out. But again caveat lector I don’t know the specifics of 5x5. Good luck.

Re: Want to start 5X5 maybe with altercations
OP,
You want to get in arguments with people at the gym? Seriously though if you want to make some alterations to the program then pull ups are the nuts. I'd add them after a couple weeks on the basic program. |

Re: Want to start 5X5 maybe with altercations
I add pullups almost every day in addition to the other stuff. I do weighted pull ups on Wednesday as the last exercise.
