Default AC Casino Revenue

Looking through the postings of the January casino revenue numbers for AC, I found it interesting that the Poker drop at Borgata outpaced the Casino's win at Craps by over $1M. Granted, the Borgata tournament had something to do with that number, but the trend over the last few months across the casinos with big poker rooms shows that poker has a solid earning power for them.

Certainly not the "loss leader" that it has been portrayed to be through the years in many cases.

I think the casino execs mindset would be that they could be making so much more if their patrons were playing craps instead of poker. Hence the casino is losing money because their patrons are playing poker.

This is why all the casinos are now opening poker rooms. If there's profit, they will come.

Oh yeah. There are a lot of asterisks by these numbers, as Poker is a totally different animal from anything other product offered in a casino.

I found the numbers interesting because I honestly didn't expect the casinos to be making nearly that much (relatively speaking) from offering poker.

Agreed. Notice the Taj also made over 2 mil. It will be very interesting to see the numbers when Borg's new room opens. I think I'm going to go looking at what Taj's numbers were before Borgata opened as well.

You have no idea how ridiculously inflated that number is because of the vig they charged for all the events. You have to consider how many supers, how many 2nd chance tournies, and all that makes for a very very large drop. In all honesty, considering the size of the poker room they have now, and the size of the table games area, I would say normally it isn't even close.

In Dec they made 1.4 Too bad they can't run one of those things every month :0) Unfortunately detailed reports like this aren't available prior to Borgata's opening so no idea how much Taj's drop is off :-( Although it does seem to be doing better than 2 years ago.

Offering poker is the same as General Mills putting another brand of cereal on the shelf.

A lot of people (myself included) would never play at a craps table. But if you put some freeze dried strawberries in those Wheaties...

On the other side of the scale is that you will only get so many people to play craps (or other table games) at a time.
Opening up another craps table won't bring in a poker player.

Does anyone know if you can find income statements of the casinos? I mean, revenues really don't tell me much until I can see the COGS, SG&A, and net profit. How expensive is it to run poker as opposed to craps? Just something I'd like to know...
