Is this just an easy answer for everyone because Alabama is supposed to be some backwards redneck state, or do you have any specific reasons?

Blatant trolling doesn't often have a whole lot behind it.

There has to be some reason that Phoenix and Vegas keep trading off 1-2 for fastest growing areas, and it's not because they suck.

[/ QUOTE ]
It's because they're cheap and close to California, where people are trying to get the hell out. In Phoenix's case, it's in spite of the fact that it sucks.

[/ QUOTE ]

When I last went to Phoenix, maybe 8 years ago, it had some cool things about it. Neighborhoods that were very inexpensive by California standards were beautiful and very safe. The housing was incredibly cheap and the houses were built to incredible standards, or so it seemed to Californians. In California, you get used to absolutely terrible quality even in very pricey homes.

Also.. South Carolina > North Carolina

way way way too many rednecks in north carolina.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would have said the exact opposite

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah. NC up and coming. research triangle + charlotte are very nice places to live.

[/ QUOTE ]

charlotte? ok i admit i did underestimate nc in my OP, the western part has the mountains and it's really nice out there and the coast is nice, but central NC is a fuggin hole.

I've been living out here (charlotte) for a while and it's miserable. I thought oklahoma was full of rednecks, but they are abundant out here.

[/ QUOTE ]

you live in the worst part of the state. western NC is beautiful, the piedmont / RTP area has a lot of great stuff, and the coast is nice to visit. south-central NC blows goats. it's basically south carolina.

i lived in wilmington briefly and my folks lived there for 7 years. it's not really my favorite part of the state - like i said, nice to VISIT.

you get a lot of the old southern good-ol-boyism and also the new southern strip malls and chain restaurants. like the worst of both worlds. the area is getting rapidly developed by gated communities and auto dealerships and golf courses and all that kinda stuff. i guess it depends on what you like. the weather is better than MA, but it gets so muggy in the summer it's sick.

the beaches are nice and there are certainly parts that are pleasant to live in, but i don't care for the area. i'd much rather live closer to chapel hill or durham and go out there on the weekends.

if you are looking into it seriously i can tell you more about various areas and what you can expect. the market there is also red-hot right now, you would probably get a better price in six months or so if you're looking to buy a house.

LOL. New York blows.

New York is a beautiful state. Have you ever been to the Finger Lakes area in western NY?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've been to the Lake Placid area, which is very nice. However, I have a hard time ignoring the part of the state I don't like (the part where most people live).

georgia needs to be lower down the list (thus a less worse state)...it has lots of trees and mountains and rivers and lakes and is not boring and flat and has the ocean and several big islands and cheap non-stop flights to most places in north/south america/europe/africa
