Why Doesn\'t TAG Work For Me?
Whenever I play boring 18/15 poker I find myself getting murdered. I might be lucky to start off the session up a buyin, but then I lose it back and more because it seems like I never make the right decision postflop.
When I loosen up and gamble I get paid off on my big hands so I don't have to worry so much about villain slowplaying a set and whatnot, and the game becomes much easier to play. I posted this in psychology, but does anyone else have this problem? It's so bad that it's to the point where I have made a promise to myself not to play tag this month. If I find myself getting lazy I'll quit the session. I wish I could play tag so I could just sit down and play 8 tables for a while and clear bonus + rb but apparently I suck at it. |

Re: Why Doesn\'t TAG Work For Me?
Well, you might be playing tag in the wrong situations -- like midday against a gazillion other tags, when laggier play might actually be better. Tagging it up works better when there's a bunch of loose aggressives out there, like the weekends and drunk nights (thurs/fri).
Work the table, not your style. That, and all of us suck down here in the micros. Admit that and realize that variance and bad play can probably explain every problem. |

Re: Why Doesn\'t TAG Work For Me?
It's not a small sample size. I was doing fine for a couple weeks lagging it up. The most I ever dropped was 3 buyins. I used to drop 3 buyins frequently tagging it up. So today I moved to a site with dealt rakeback instead of contributed, so I say to myself, 'I'm gonna nit it up because I get dealt rb now, rofl'. So that's why I switched back, but I've learned my lesson.

Re: Why Doesn\'t TAG Work For Me?
play the way you are comfortable and what the table dynamics suggest. like balance b/t the two. if a table is totally nitty you know to lag it up and if you don't feel comfortable getting really laggy find a not so nitty table and semilag it. if you tag it up find a loose table and do your thing.

Are you tight and aggressive or just tight?
