Default Atlantic City Poker Tournament entry fees

Hello there,

I recently moved to the East coast and am looking at Atlantic City poker tourneys. Taj and Borgata (most highly recommended ones) have daily tournaments that charge about 20% of the buy-in as entry fees. Is that the average fee in Vegas as well?

Googling "average fees" gives the number as 10% (for online mostly). Vegas does seem to provide a lot more no-fee tourneys as well and I could not find any such tourneys for Atlantic City. Are there other casinos (or non-regular tournaments @ Taj/Borgata) that are better and put back a bigger percentage of the buy-in into the prize pool?

Thank you!

Generally casinos will have to charge a certain dollar amount to run the event (dealers, floor people, their own profit, etc). Therefore for a small buyin, the fee is proportionally higher - just as it is online.

I've always felt that the fee should be tied directly to the structure, and the more I pay, the longer a structure I expect. For 10 or 20 bucks, I don't expect to get much...but more than 30, I expect to have more to work with.

So the entry fee is not much more than what Las Vegas casinos charge in general? I played at 100$ buy-in at Monte Carlo once and the entry fee were not more than 15$ as far as I can remember. What percentage would you say is fair for a live casino?

The Borgata daily tournaments are $50+10 and $100+20, but they also allow an add-on that has no additional entry fee, bringing the entry fee to around 10% of the prize pool. Also, the Friday noon Borgata tournament is $250+30 (so just over 10%) and is very popular.

Hilton used to have no-fee tournaments on Wednesday and Thursday evening, but I think they have been recently discontinued. Their attendance was terrible. For some reason most people would apparently rather play a $40+10 than a $100+0.

I somewhat agree. I wouldn't put an exact dollar figure on it, but the more I pay (in percentage of buyin), the more play I want.

I just played the Showboat's tourney for the first time on Friday morning ($53+$12). Granted the juice is a bit high, but the structure is awesome.

Proportionally, I'd pay a higher premium there (with the slower structure) rather than play the crapshoots that are run elsewhere.

Not sure if its still up but I believe there was a section in the monthly magazine about the fairness and structure of AC tournments. Maybe worth a look, from what I remember it was Borgota, then Taj in terms of what you get for your buy-in.

I played the $50+10, with a $50 add on on a sunday at Borgata, the field was I want to say over 200 players easy. The level of play wasn't all that great.

I would have liked a slower format but for that amount of a buy in, I guess I can't complain. It costs money to run the place.
