[/ QUOTE ]That's not the issue. The issue is your Korean women would rather have sex with us, so you have a lot more time to play thousands of hands a day.

I think Elky was involved in a project like this. Not sure if it's the same one, but the references to Dan Schreiber (Rekrul) make me think it probably is, as they're friends.

Seems to me that it's pretty similiar to the current batch of Germans: Poker becomes popular in a country, lots of people join, want to get better, most fail, repeat. It's being done in a slightly more organised way (like pokerstrategy.de I imagine), but more people playing poker is no bad thing.

Koreans are not naturally better at learning how to play poker than non-Koreans. They're not naturally better at learning how to play Starcraft either, it was just unique social conditions that led to it. There are no top Korean Quake or CS players, for example.

somebody emailed the link to this thread to me. from the quoted site i immediately recognized the name zacard from warcraft 3. i see elky mentioned in the thread. both he and tillerman are top rts players that made the jump to poker. interesting, but not too surprising - think about how many of us got here by playing magic: the gathering, for example. i think there's an immediate appeal for competitive gamers of any type to something challenging that uses money as the primary way of keeping score. it's also easier to start playing once the game has been demystified by your peers.

personally, i like the idea of (hopefully friendly) duelling poker factions: b&m players, online players, young players, old players, magic players, rts players, etc. i think the rts community could produce many more tough cookies. the good ones are very studious, and always looking for an edge. there are some visibly unethical ones out there though, so i almost expect to see increased experiments with collusion, bots, trojans, and other such stuff.
