Default Things that make you go humm

I was playing in a MTT at a local casino last weekend.

We are in the third round of 30 minutes. I am in seat 9 of 10. The player to my right has played exactly three hands in the last hour and 20 minutes. Each time he has raised when entering the pot, and played well post flop. I cover in this the last 10 minutes of the rebuy period.

It folds to the player on my right and he limps, I have AKs and raise to 2400, the blinds fold and the player quickly calls, in fact has the chips in hand when the BB folds.

Flop is great ace high with two clubs (my suit), he checks and I bet ~pot, he pushes AI and I call. He tables AA...

This really bothered me.

Why?

1) I look at my cards as soon as I have both cards. I am fairly careful about protecting my hand, but I am not paranoid about it and was not being super careful like I would with someone standing behind. There is a slim chance he could have seen them by accident, but definitely could have if he was trying to. But honestly I think I would have noticed he leaning over, etc to see...

2) The player to right was only entering pots with a raise, this pattern continued for as long as we played together, another ~45 minutes.

3) I have found marked cards in the cash games at this casino before, and the floor was not willing to do anything about it until I got the tribal gaming official involved in it. I check my AK for marks, and did not find any though...

4) The player was wearing a bluetooth head piece.

I mentioned the strange play to him, he did not say a single word even though I was all but saying he cheated...

So was I just being paranoid or did I just get nailed?

Live poker is rigged.

Seriously though, whats the really suspicious part? That he just called preflop? That he called right away? That he check-raised all in with top set?

None of these are that strange.

I can't figure out what you're mystified about - nothing unusual here at all. Sounds like you ran into a tight, aggressive player who simply steamrolled you!

Lots of good players limp AA, hoping to get in a big reraise preflop. And once he flopped top set and there's a flush draw out there, he gave you some rope to see if you would hang yourself - and you jumped right in.

He played you like a fiddle .... and now he even has you thinking about marked cards, instead of thinking about your game. Totally owned, and the ownership continues!

That happened to me just this week, four times.

people playing AA passively is not rare. I mean...just look at this guy's trip report and how he played AA.

Sounds like standard procedure for doubling up with AA hitting a set on the flop... The only fishy thing in general is the bluetooth headset - those and cell phones in general are a no-no at Harrah's where I play here in KC...
