Default definition - metagame

I've posted this in a couple other forums(beg, ssnl), but I just found this and it might be more appropriate here.

Can anyone give a clear definition to the term 'metagame'? I've dug around some and found the shania thread, but that seems a bit out there. I'm not real sure how to cut it down to a sentence or two. I can only give examples. What do you guys think?

Anything not specific to the hand being played at that moment.

Examples:
-Creating a loose image
-Threatening to kill your opponents if you lose
-Having a cute donkey as avatar on the poker site

how about this for one sentence

it is the altering of your opponents perception of you for your benefit.

How about removing the 'for your benefit' part. I think it can be useful to talk about metagame in cases where you are creating an image of yourself that is detrimental to your playing strategy.

metagame is just how your opponents think your range is and how you play the different hands in said range.

sure people do it all the time but they are fools. example the very tight player that hardly ever bluffs. --he keeps his chips in neat stcks and makes all his moves obvious to all that he is not going to take any chances.
or the player that bluffs alot. he keeps showing his bluffs when successful.
