yeah i don't see how this is such a big deal for the parent of the kid honestly. it's a slap. basically no damage whatsoever. don't give me that mental damage either.. even if he wasn't retarded i don't buy it, but especially since he is!

This is extremely unfortunate.

If you've never done this kind of work, your immediate reaction is to say, "She has to be fired, like now," and it's hard to argue with you. If the parent makes it a big issue, that's exactly what will happen.

But if this woman is a good employee and the family doesn't make a stink, there is no way most experienced supervisors would get rid of her, just because it is so hard to find people that are good at this job and want to do it. Virtually every good social worker, child care professional, etc that I know has done something at some point that is more than enough to get them fired. It's an incredibly difficult job.

Suspended for the remainder of the summer and brought back on probation seems likely if the family doesn't go to court.

BTW this is more than enough for a lawsuit, AINEC. I think OP did the best he could and I would definitely like to hear updates.
