Glad he was released, he didn't deserve to be there in the first place. Wouldn't say his life is ruined, if he wants to work hard enough he can be successful somewhere.

this prosecutor needs to die. How pathetic to be so determined to continue to ruin the poor kids life because he had sex at a high-school party that had drinking.

Did this person just not have any friends in high-school or something? Not realize that teens actually do drink and have sex and it's not the end of the world?

17 y.o. with a 15 y.o. gets 10 years in prison? How can any normal person not see how wrong this is.

This prosecutor should lose their job over this.

This prosecutor should lose their job over this. And all members of the jury should finish out his sentence for not voting jury nullification when told of this sentence.

You're kidding, right? They practically give prosecutors medals for this [censored]. Why do you think these scumbag [censored] push so hard on garbage cases like this? You've never seen a prosecutor run on a platform of, "I gave soft sentences to people who shouldn't really have been in jail, anyway." The idiots go to the ballot boxes in droves to vote for people who hand down these insane sentences.

Edit: I mean the prosecutors who push for the sentences, but it actually applies to the judges, too.

If there is a hell, it's got a special extra-hot room for guys like this prosecutor.

They were not told that the crime carried a 10 year mandatory sentence until after the verdict. They did acquit him of raping another girl who had claimed she was too drunk to give consent.

In addition, it isn't like they tell you about jury nullification. It is not common practice to instruct jurors on this issue because, hey, you're just jurors and Judge Mightypants doesn't feel like having his instructions questioned by you peons.

Besides, it's not like the jury can go back and nullify after the fact. Not that I am aware of, anyway.
