BEAT: My jeep is [censored]. I need automotive help.

So I go to let a friend drive my jeep srt8 and he uses the remote start and the engine is running, i tell him to put the key in and turn it and then shift out of park and we're good to go.

he puts the key in but doesn't turn it and then ends up jerking the car out of park when the key wasn't in and it shuts itself down.

now the car is stuck not in park and it won't start. i got the parking break on in it but i can't get it started or to shift into park.

anyone know how [censored] the transmission is going to be? how hard is this gonna be to fix? anyone have a trick to fix it? anyone know if jeep service departments at dealerships are working on memorial day? i need it fixed tomorrow cause i'm stranded in tulsa and need to drive to vegas soon for event 1.

I think I understand your thing what I had to do in similar situation is put the key in where just the battery is running, then put pressure on the break and see if it will change gears.

tried that. tried pressing the break in every key spot, as well as jiggling the shifter in any direction possible but it seems to be locked out of park for some reason no matter what the brake peddle or key is doing.

That might help, its not exactly the same car but the problem could be similar..

hmm, solid link, but i can get the key in, it just won't start.

also don't know how to take the 'gear shift off' lol.

god i hope the jeep dealerships are open tomorrow.

I think he just pried the gear shift off.. theres usually a pin or something that clicks when you take the car out of park. If you could put that back to where its supposed to be, in case its been displaced or something, it might do the trick. It'd be [censored] but its worth a try since you need to get it done asap cuz I doubt dealerships will be open tomorrow.

k, if gear shift lever is in any position other then Park or Neutral (brake pedal pressure does not matter, but, for safety, I would apply brake), the ignition/transmission interlock system will not let you start car,...obv.....
sooooo, u said u can't get it into Park, did u try Neutral. U can start in N.

If you can't normally move lever to N or P, I would let dealership service sort out probable mechanical jam...Jeep 24 Hour Towing Assistance (page 90 of owners manual, 1-800-528-2069, or, got other roadside assistance????)..I'd write down any messages generated by your Electronic Vehicle Information Center, etc

This is a super long shot, but pp26 of your owners manual talks about "resetting" after failed attempt at using remote start. Might be in some wacky electron loop.

Couldn't find any reference to any manual "over-ride" to dis-engage jammed trans from Reverse or Drive positions after engine Off.

"Reset" goes something like this:
1. insert valid key in ignition
2. turn key to Run
3. turn key to back to Lock

if u can then normally move gearshift lever to N or P, then try normal sequence of turning key to Start
