A+
When i'm correctly thinking in ranges it helps a lot to be less result oriented==> much less tilting, more good playing.

Putting your finger on it and explaining so any donk can understand sure helps.

"So, if you get all in pre-flop with A-A versus J-J for $10k and you lose, you lost $10k in real dollars; however you won about $8k in Sklansky Dollars because you should win that hand 80% of the time."

Huh?

Thanks guys. Glad you liked it. (bump)

great article. How well are you able to narrow a player's range down in a given situation? Seems it would take thousands of hands to get an idea of a player's range using past history. Is it just logical guesses based on bits of info and tendencies?

yes

Jman --

Good article, by the way. Funny how so much of the best poker writing is just careful and clear walkthroughs of concepts one already knows. (I mean that as a compliment, not a sly putdown.)

A good example that I like to give: same game, 100/200, $20k stacks. The button, a good aggressive player, raises to 600 and you call in the BB with 5-5. Flop is Jd10d2h. You check and the button bets $1,000, which he does with almost every hand he raised with. You usually have the best hand. But a fold is still correct.

Are there other textured flops that you would continue on, even if you didn't hit a set?

You aren't suggesting that you should play for set value with 5-5 against a button raise, are you?
