I can never understand why people who are in effect asking their bosses to pay them while they read Twoplustwo then have the nerve to complain that the pulsating bottoms and bouncing bosoms, that give so many other readers enjoyment, and add to the entire aesthetic experience of moving around these delectable forums, should be removed because they might be caught reading a site that they know they should not be reading while being paid by their bosses. It always seems to me to be an extraordinarily selfish motivation, particularly when it would take only perhaps ten or twenty seconds for them to turn off avatars, in any case.

It should be the standard response from all mods to such complainers that they should have used the time spent writing their post to edit their own personal settings, instead of trying to impose on others who are viewing, legitimately, in other circumstances.

Mike,

There are a lot of people that aren't paid by the hour. They have to get a certain amount of work done, for which they are paid. This often involves an intense busy period followed by a lull with little to do. There is nothing wrong with reading 2+2 during the downtime while waiting for others to finish their bit. There is something wrong with having tits and ass on the screen when coworkers, especially females, walk by.

Also, there are loads of students including me. I personally have felt uncomfortable on several occasions reading 2+2 in the computer lab. I have also had people, friends of mine fortunately, comment on the images asking what they are. This is somewhat bad because I didn't notice because I see them all the time.

Jared

Thank you for your valid response.

However, personally, if I felt uncomfortable with any of the avatars being seen by others I would take the twenty seconds to turn them off.

There will always be avatars that would make the people who might feel uncomfortable with such things feel uncomfortable, whatever censorship we impose.

The argument that some people use for not turning off avatars of that they recognise some posters by their avatars, whilst true, is not at all realistic in the grand scheme of things. There are hundreds of posters who don't use an avatar at all, and hundreds of others who only call in now and then to make valuable posts. Do these people not read such posts, and look only for those made by their avatared friends?

I stick by my suggestion that we tell people to turn off their avatars instead of complaining about photos that entertain well over 90% of our young male readership.

Jared's response is what I would have written. Anyway, I didn't want to be a nit and remove Poon Jab's pulsating asses avatar, so I upgraded my adblock and now I can block it and still see other photobucket avatars.

i think i agree with MH here. i enjoy most of the racy images. you shouldnt force people to take down images that are within their image posting rights just because you're posting from a place that forbids you to, and you want to continue to do so without getting into trouble.

im obviously not judging you for posting from there, i'm just saying that it's not anyways else's problem and they shouldn't have to take it down for people posting from work.

Fair enough, but this line of thinking has a slippery slope leading to the theory that NSFW should be an obsolete tag. That any image that's ok to post after tagging it NSFW might as well be ok to post at all times. Why bother tagging it? People reading 2+2 at work should know to expect that kind of stuff, etc, and it's their problem.

PJ, you can turn off avatars while at work (recommended), you can't exactly turn off posts at work (unless you're just not going to read any).

That's the difference!

Anyone surfing from work at a large company is having their access tracked and reports are going to HR. Remember, that if someone is linking an avatar directly off a porn site, everytime you bring up a screen that has their avatar, its as if you surfed to that porn site, once per each time the image shows up. While 2+2 showing up on the reports may fly under the radar, those links to porn sites are going to get you in trouble!

I regret that I have to disagree agree with this statement.

The NSFW tag is one of my better and more useful ideas, , and, obviously, not only for those at work. I do not see this forum-wide accepted convention being dropped for posts, like, ever. Indeed, I would think we will gradually go the way that all doubtful photos are always posted by way of links marked NSFW, as "mistakes" are made, and as both posters and mods learn to overcome the possibility of making such mistakes.

Avatars that cross the line of reasonable decency will always be weeded out by mods, with the help of readers' feedback. Not because someone wants to read the forum at work and couldn't be bothered using the provided means to switch off, permanently or temporarily, the display.
