This China obsession of yours is a bit weird.

The comment above is a bit weird!!!

China has over 1.2 billion people, if any of these online gaming companies can attract a fraction of this population to play on a regular basis, they'll be tons of money to be made.

I'm no economist or anything, but its my understanding that if each of those people decided to gamble just $1, it would provide the gambling economy with over $1.2 billion of revenue.

1. His comment about X online qualifiers to the WSOP from China. 95% don't show up because they aren't allowed a passport.
2. China blocks/controls Google. Imagine what they will do if they think $100M's are going to flow to Gibraltar just in rake, not to mention to US, Europe as poker losses.
3. China has shown 0 respect for copyright law, etc. Are you that comfortable with 2 million "Chinese government approved" players on a site?

Oliver, you've done a lot of research, but you keep quoting this 1.2B population figure while ignoring the fact that the vast majority are dirt poor w/o the money or means to deposit money into a site.

something I seriously don't know - what is the % of people in China who own a computer? % who have internet access?

what the Chinese government should be doing is creating a poker site to allow chinese citizens to play on, hence keeping the rake, another tax on its citizens.

Just glancing at Dell's annual report they are claiming an increase of 37% in China shipments. If you look at their latest 10-K you can see that 12% of their revenue is from the Asian-Pacific-Japan demographic.

Also noted is the quote,
"The region’s strong revenue growth in fiscal 2006 was led by growth in China."

So it would seem that more consumers in China are purchasing computers.
