So how low are we calling here? We're dropping a flush, right?

Just curious, does everyone go broke if river is 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]?

[/ QUOTE ]I'd like to think so, but the truth is that I'm still too much of a donk to fold a full house

I think it's too late once you raise the river but a call in the first place on the river is certainly reasonable, because what worse hands are calling your river raise except Q4 boat?

Board is paired from the flop==flush probably isn't calling (plus if he has nut flush what are you raising with, and if he doesn't than you could have it instead), and flush==trips isn't calling. Note that QJ, JJ, QQ are far more likely holdings preflop for a limper than Q4 so you really can't expect to get paid off here very often at all.

Plus it's live, high-buyin, 200BB which generally equals weak-tight villain, and he's played it like the nuts.

I think if you make it $10K on the river, you are committed to calling the rest.

If you raise smaller on the river, then you have a chance to fold. For instance, if you made a minraise to 4600, you could lay it down to his push.

The smaller raise also has the benefit of getting a crying call from a flush. I would not expect a competent player to call the $10K raise with a flush, but they might pay off the smaller raise.

On the other hand, they WILL call your big raise with a lower boat like J's full or 4's full.

Overall the real answer is: you got cold decked and there wasn't much you could do.

People talking about folding in this situation are crazy, I could find a fold in 1 situation only if both of us had 1 million chips and the blinds were 50/100, I could find a fold for all of my chips, but I would never let it come down to that, I would call somewhere along the line wanting to get to a showdown after the 4th or 5th raise. Only hand that beats us is QJ, I think JJ, nut flush, Q4 could all play this way against us, sucks you ran into the nuts bro.
Cheers!
John

something similar happened to me the other day

[/ QUOTE ]

Not even remotely similar.

Bet the flop, bet the turn, something, anything...

[/ QUOTE ]

why? can u give some reasons? my reasoning was that heads up a set is a monster and i laid a trap for the bigger stack with position to bluff away some chips or a chance to catch a second best hand since the flop usually misses both blinds. i didnt have a read on his passive/aggreesive tendanceis since i just got moved to that table.

[/ QUOTE ]

Reasons:

1. You were slowplaying (incorrectly IMO), OP was being slowplayed.

2. The OP has 2nd nuts, you have 5th nuts. Big difference.

3. The OP had evidence villain was overvaluing a rivered flush, you have no information or evidence about the opponent's holding at all. I'm assuming the river didn't complete the flush. This seriously limits the hands villain might have.

4. The OP had position, you did not.

5. You missed bets on every street except the river (which you overplayed IMO), the OP did not.

There are other critical differences, but you get the point.

The similarity is that you both lost with a full house, that is all. The hands played out MUCH differently, and the situations are not comparable...
