Default I know nothing about Omaha 8...

All I know is It's a game of scooping the pot and the nuts. Should I start at omaha hi and work my way to 8? My poker backround consists of NLHE, Stud HI, and Razz. Also what books or articles do you suggest for someone starting off playing O8 or Omaha Hi?

That proposed sticky thread would come in handy for questions like this.

And ceegee, I hate to be the one to tell you, but you're clearly too lazy for O8 greatness, based on the vague generality of your question*...for me to poop on!

The sticky did not help, which is why I posted this. It does not say anything about playing Omaha hi first or where to start if I haven't played either. It also does not suggest books because they don't want to promote certain company books.
Which again is why I posted this.

I haven't had my coffee yet. Here's the unstickied sticky list.

Also, Omaha high versus low is more about your emotional and mental state than about math or ROI. If you're more prone to tilt, or intensely dislike splitting the pot, then you won't like O8.

[/ QUOTE ]Depends on what you want to play. The two games are very dissimilar.

[/ QUOTE ]Decide what you want to play first (high or high/low).

There's a separate forum for books and publications. Go there and type "Omaha" in the search box. You'll get a listing of a collection of threads discussing the topic.

I generally advise Omaha-8 newbies to read the Omaha-8 chapter in Super System 2 and also read the Omaha-8 section in Ray Zee's classic Split Poker book. Both are excellent and address different aspects of Omaha-8.

I don't feel qualified to recommend a straight high Omaha book. (I own and have read and studied a whole bunch of Omaha-8 and also Omaha-high books, pretty much everything that's out there).

[/ QUOTE ]Hi Frank - Yes. It will, and we will have an addition to the sticky. I promise. I have not forgotten.

It's just on temporary hold because we're switching over to a different software system in less than two weeks.

And hopefully Felicia will be coming back soon, and I certainly want her input. She's our moderator in chief. I'm mainly just holding down the fort for her while she's recuperating.

www.playwinningpoker.com has some decent articles about omaha 8, this was what I first read when switching from NLHE, and Mike Cappelatti's book "How to play winning Omaha high low" was really helpful for me too. Best thing I reckon would be to read around to pick up a basic strategy for the game and play at a stake that you feel comfortable losing at (I played 1/2c and 2/4c on VCpoker) and you will begin to learn about the concepts of the game. The day I first got quartered on the 2cent games changed my whole PLO8 game.
