I lived in Colorado for five years, and I would not consider moving back until I get married or retire or something. The ski towns are too touristy, and the entire state is completely void of all decent poker and good looking women.

Seriously, you will never see so many women who look like Ozzy Osbourne.

I am going to the Lake Tahoe WSOP circuit event in a couple weeks tangentially to look for property, so this is a timely thread.

Whistler/Blackcomb with the olympics upcoming is the nuts IMO. Best combo of great mountain/party scene that I have found in my fairly extensive investigations into such things.

I think Ft. Collins Colorado is a great fit for your criteria. It's a college town, lots of places to ski and drink, lots of hot women, affordable housing, and a great atmosphere. I've only been there twice (my brother went to Colorado) but I had a great time. I'd imagine 600K would get you something pretty badass, you could probably find something cheaper that would fit your needs.

Where is there a place to ski near Ft. Collins? Aren't you at least three hours away from the ski resorts?

As a side note - and this could be huge for you guys - when I lived in Tahoe, I actually lived juuuuuust over the border in a town called Zephyr Cove, which was a 2-3 minute drive to the downtown club/casino and skiing area. As a Nevada resident, you don't have to pay state income tax, which for big spenders like you guys might be enough to pay off the mortgage alone. There are some gorgeous homes in this area - just a thoug

Wait, could they make this their primary residence (for paperwork only) and save oodles of money?

I know nothing about taxes.

Raptor lives in Texas, where there is also no state income tax...

raptor,
I recently got a place in north tahoe (near truckee) and it's fantastic. I am a serious skier so proximity to Squaw is key. And it's generally a great location with nice stuff to do year round. Small cabin up in the hills (not too far from others though) for slightly north of 500k. If you are going to do tahoe then north side is way better I think.

You could also consider the Stowe, Vermont area which has been one of my longtime favorites. The skiing is very different there but is often very good as well if you are serious. And as far as quaint nice mountain towns it's hard to beat -- it's actually the real thing, rather than these manufactured pre-designed "towns" that seem to develop around ski areas.

Colorado and Utah have great skiing (especially Utah) but just aren't as nice places to have a cabin IMO.

Raptor,

Check out Bend, Oregon and surrounding cities. You have Mt. Bachelor at your doorstep in the winter, can find a really nice place for 600k, and it's in a blossoming real estate market. On top of that, in the summer there is a TON of stuff to do and you have world class golf courses to play with.

PS As a thank you, please invite me to go skiing with you guys
