Not sure if a CD image will work on a dvd... however I just downloaded Ubuntu Gutsy dvd image so that is an option.

I got it to work, to boot into Ubunto. the mouse and keyboard worked, but I couldn't get any network connection working (ethernet or wifi). I figured I would need to install drivers for my wifi card (will this be hard?) but I was surprised I couldn't get my regular network card to work.

anyone have thoughts?

I want to try setting up my machine to dual-boot (though that may be too ambitious). but before I go through this painful exercise (for me) I'm trying to get a comfort level that I'll be able to get my internet workng in ubunto

Ubuntu has a restricted drivers manager which in theory should make it a snap to install wireless drivers (I don't use wireless so I can't say for sure). The ethernet port is odd though as it should work out of the box (assuming you're using DHCP)
