Re: Weird hand. $20/$40 Stud High.
Bored at work. Hope this helps math impaired for concept of raising with 2nd best hand. Hope I did calculations right. Someone look it over. Tried to show as much work as possible but skipped some super obvious steps. I think seperating rounds action with initial pot helps avoid problems of counting things twice.
Ks Kc 7c 4d 3h 0.349 As 9c 9d 6d 5h 0.199 Qs Qc 6c 2d 2h 0.452 Pot is 6bb before fifth action .35 = 2.1 bb your hand equity now .2 = 1.2 bb fish hand equity now .45 = your equity if fish folds. Action: -Investment + equity of total money going in that round = Ev of action. Ev of action + equity of inital pot = your Ev You raise, he folds: -2bb for (.45 of (1 + 2 + 1) +(.45 of inital 6bb pot) = (-2 + 1.8) = -.2 + 2.7 = 2.5 You raise, he calls: -2bb for (.35 of (1 + 2 + 2 + 1) +(.35 of inital 6bb pot) = (-2 + 2.1) = .1 + 2.1 = 2.2 You call, he calls: -1bb for (.35 of (1 + 1 + 1) +(.35 of inital 6bb pot) = (-1 + 1.05)= .05+ 2.1 = 2.15 |

Re: Weird hand. $20/$40 Stud High.
The idea is that you will typically be investing the same amount of money on 5th and 6th as would've invested by just calling 5th, so it is worthwhile if there is any increase in equity.

Re: Weird hand. $20/$40 Stud High.
There is more than that going on. You're play is better on fifth street regardless of whether he bets 6th or not. If he checks 6th now putting in 2 bets on 5th is WAY, WAY better. Even though you're "paying" the same. If he bet's 6th and you call it's still better (barring minor exceptions depending on exact board) "paying" 3 bets to see fifth. Raising fifth is better, even in a vacuum, even if he donks 6th.
