Default Computer Dumbass Question

Hey everyone,

I wanted to "free up some space" on my computer since it has been running slower than normal.

I have 7.7GB worth of stuff on my Itunes (vids and mp3 files) and I was thinking of saving them to some DVD-RWs and then erasing them from my hard drive.

I'm a complete computer noob, so I'm not sure if this will have any effect/ is a good thing to do.

Any tips on making your computer run faster/erasing empty, needless memory space would be great thanks!

in my opinion the best thing to do is to add a second drive and move some stuff there. Burning to discs is clunky.

Look for an App called "double killer" this will find duplicate files on your computer and get rid of them I cleared up about 8GB of space with this tool. I got off of Kim Komando's site but you can probably find it on google.

How big is your hard drive? I agree that burning to discs is a very inconvenient option.

Why is burning to disc an inconvenient option?

Is it just the burning process, having to upload when you need stuff, etc.? Or is there something I'm missing?

Jup. You will always have to search for the right disc. And all those cd's will cost some money. Hard drives aren't that expensive anymore, so I'd recommend buying an extra harddrive and using this as ARCHIVE. So you keep ur data seperate.

What's taking up the bulk of your 200, if you only have 7 of music?

You should be able to find 120-160 gig drives for about $100, maybe less w/ rebates/sales.

By the way, this:

[/ QUOTE ]doesn't really work, unless your harddrive is TOTALLY full. Harddrive is like long-term storage. RAM is current-concentration. Closing more programs (and running some malware removal) will help you think faster. Erasing long-term storage won't effect much.

its may be running slow because theres not enough ram, your best bet is to buy more. if you dont want to buy ram, remove programs that are loaded into ram at startup.
