Seriously guys... why do they keep giving these idiots TV time?

I watched the WSOP TOC last night. I had never seen it before. It was excrutiatingly painful to watch though. Why do they insist on giving Phil H. and Mike M. all the TV time? These guys are pieces of trash and IMO hurt the game more than they help it.

Poker abilities aside, they are are rude, obnoxious, pricks. But they are popular, so the tools at ESPN give them all the air time. Which means Joe college student can walk into a casino and be a prick like his hero Phil "The Mouth" Hellmusow.

If you're gonna needle your opponents or trash talk, do it like Farha and at least be classy about it. There are a lot of class acts that I would rather get the air time... Negreanu, Raymer, Juanda, Greenstein, etc.

You have a good point, they should put someone like Todo on because people don't like watching racy things on TV.

So are you insiting that if hellmuth or matusow make a tv table, it shouldn't be televised?

People love watching characters on television. Matusow and Hellmuth are the kind of characters you love to hate. Half of what they do is an act for the cameras.

I only watch reality shows like Survivor or Big Brother when I can be compelled to actually like or dislike the characters. I love watching a villain get voted off one of these shows. If the contestants are boring and playing the game too nicely, I quickly tune out. Same thing with poker, unless the play is fantastic, a poker game without characters (especially villains) is boring and I will change the channel.

I love them. They feed the game. Poker is all about trash talking. Deal with it.

I can't stand Matusow, because he's an [censored] in real life. Whereas Phil is a class act away from the table.

But if you don't like it.. Don't watch.. Hellmuth is in IMO, the greatest hand reader in the game today. He can sense strengths and weaknesses from the greatest players in the world. If you can't enjoy watching him play poker, then you just need to get lost.

Matusow on the other hand.. He's just a piece of dirt IMO, but I can still watch him on TV. I love watching him get busted though.

They are great for the game and they are inpart responsible for the poker boom.

They came after the boom began. Phil gets more obnoxious with each passing week. And personally, just judging from what I see on TV, he is weak/tight. The only brilliant play I've ever seen him make is the "I can dodge bullets baby" hand. And here I am a year later still hearing him brag about it on TV.

Personally, I'd rather watch Marcell Luske. He's entertaining, has some skills, and above all is a classy guy.

Yeah maybe they should have focused more on DN, Raymer, Juanda and Greenstein at the final table of the TOC...woops, they weren't there...maybe THAT had something to do with it.
