Blah. What's the big deal with this guy? I don't get it. Maybe someone smarter than me can tell me why Omar is so high on this guy. He's younger? Less expensive than Lo Duca?

If this means Castro is going to play 70-80 games I might be okay with this.

I don't understand the infatuation with Torrealba either except that it's one more domino in Omar's plan to have an entirely Latin team.

Seriously, the guy hit .210 on the road last year and was as bad as throwing guys out as Lo Duca. They can't do better for $15 million?

I think that, for one reason or another, LoDuca was disliked by management. Maybe it had to do with gambling. Maybe he was bad in the clubhouse. Who knows?

This guy may not be so bad, in light of the other choices (assuming that there was legitimate reason not to keep LoDuca). And I do suspect that Castro will play much more, just like many fans wanted.

I have no idea whether the contract amounted to over-paying or not.

Yeah, at the very least, hopefully this gets Castro some more playing time.

Yorvit is probably a bit better defensively than LoDuca. Although he had a bad year only throwing out 19%, his career average is around 32%, and I read somewhere that he had about 200 fewer attempts against him than LoDuca in the last 2 or 3 years.

wth, he has a career .251 avg, but from what i read, his defense is 'good' despite his low rate at throwing people out??????

at least lo duca was decent at catching a game imo, wtf with this?? i know it might be too much to ask castro to be the full time player, but to spend 15 mill on what may be a platoon doesn't sound right imo

edit: i see ur post now, 32 is all right to decent i guess, i don't care for offense from the catcher and i just want defense, but meh, this is not where money should be going imo

From what I've read, this guy is considered superior in terms of blocking pitches, if not throwing guys out. And apparently, the pitchers in Colorado loved the way he called and managed a game.

If he gets the smaller share of a platoon with Castro, then whatever, it's not my money. Otherwise, this is stupid. I have about -> <- this much faith in Willie to get this right, though...

Well he can't sit one of them because he's not the veteran guy, so maybe there's a chance he'll get it right.

the team needs to keep lo duca, despite all the media swirling around him. he had an off year offensively, and i know castro is an exciting hitting prospect, but when lo duca went down late this past year, the difference in catcher defense was ridiculous. when you consider how wild ollie and maine can be sometimes, i think its vital for this team to have a good defensive catcher, and lo duca was just that.
