Default WTF!? JJ facing 16BB raise.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Button (t2365)
SB (t2330)
BB (t1743)
UTG (t1015)
UTG+1 (t3410)
MP1 (t2130)
MP2 (t4045)
Hero (t1390)
CO (t4282)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG calls t50, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP2 raises to t800</font>, Hero??

This is from the $10 15,000 gtd. Only read on Villain is that he tripled up when shortstacked calling an all in raise and a call with 44. Thoughts? Thanks.

I push. Very rarely is this QQ+. Worst case scenario you are probably facing AK, AQ, but I believe this is a smaller pocket pair a good amount of the time.

I agree. Shove. In fact, I bet he had TT.

What do I win? :-)

I fold. Its early, the blinds are small, your M is above 15. He just raised 16 times the big blind and you have no read. You don't know if this is a begginner overbetting aces (like they tend too) or a tricky experienced player bluffing with a hand you are beating. Even if you knew it was a solid player, is he bluffing by overbetting, or overbetting to appear like he is clueless and induce a call into kings or aces??? You just don't know at this stage. If you don't have enough info to have a solid read on a player, you don't want to be pushing vulnerable hands for all your chips. Lets say you call and you see ace queen, do really want to race for your tourney life this early? I don't. I just think that pushing marginal edges and attacking coinflips aggressively is a cash game play, when you can reload. In a situation where you can't reload, you avoid coinflips when you can. So, if I am confused early and can't put my oppenent on a hand, I pitch unless I know I have to be ahead.

I don't understand last 2 posts. Push this hand, anyone who raises 8xBB is a novice in this spot and should be punished for his stupid moves. If he has AA-QQ its still a stupid move.

Its 44-QQ,AK so often and KK-AA quite infrequently. Poosh.

This is 88-JJ, IMO. Never aces. Sometimes AK. QQ and KK are plausible (maybe he has been outdrawn a lot latley and is on tilt or something), but I still think they are very unlikely.

So.. I guess it's time to gamble and push this one.

Given what you saw earlier from this player, looks like a push.

Given a range of say 88-QQ, AQ+ you're ahead.
