12/180 turbo - Top Set on a Monotone Flop
I don't have the real hand history to post but it looks something like this:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t100 (9 handed) BB (t4500) UTG (t2300) UTG+1 (t2800) MP1 (t2300) MP2 (t1200) MP3 (t3600) Hero (t5000) Button (t3200) SB (t1300) Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG calls t100, UTG+1 calls t100, 2 folds, MP3 calls t100, Hero calls t100, Button calls t100, SB call t50, BB checks. Flop: (t700) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (7 players) 5 players check, Hero bets t600 , Button calls t600, SB folds, BB raises t4400 (All-in), 3 folds, Hero…??? No reads as I was just moved to this table a hand ago. I'd also appreciate comments on PF limp and on flop bet. Rod |

I play it the same. You have to call and hate it.

call and yell at Stars to pair the board. Be sure to throw your mouse and papers on your desk and stuff.

Calling PF is fine, but since we're big stack nothing wrong with playing New Kid on the Block Big Stack Poker and popping it to 1K here just to see what the table is like.
I'd call. I think the Semi-Bluff Push is easily the most overused play in tournament poker and Villain probably has only 1 club and therefore fewer out than he believes |

You really want to put in 20% of your big stack just to see see what the table is like? I think limping behind is optimal here, especially in these 12/180s where implied odds are so much bigger than in most other tourneys. I agree with calling and all the monitor, paper, and desk stuff. And nice catch. |

Re: 12/180 turbo - Top Set on a Monotone Flop
The raise here, which I'm not clearly recommending but just offering as an alternative, is to try to train the table to back down and it's a judgement call. Most people would rather quote from the Book of Harrington like it was scripture instead of adjusting for situations.
Look how many posts and posters here have worlds of trouble with marginal hands against new comer big stack and big raises; people have laid down QQ for Christsake and gotten props that it was a good move! If you have the moxy for it and are able to get the table to fold you'll have a much better idea where you stand against the table and know you're up against a big hand if they start to play back at you. And again, limping with 99 to set mine here is perfectly reasonable |

Re: 12/180 turbo - Top Set on a Monotone Flop
Train the table to back down? In a 12/180 turbo? Very, very wishful thinking for like a zillion reasons.
And don't forget that that if you raise to 1,000 here, you're priced in to call any shove (except maaaaaaybe from the BB). And any shove will have a probable range of TT+, AK which has you crushed. |

Re: 12/180 turbo - Top Set on a Monotone Flop
Take a look at the posts here were guys even with JJ and QQ run into a Big Bet from the New Big Stack and get advised/convinced that backing down is a good idea because you're either a coin flip or crushed.
